For decades, Deepak Chopra sold the world on stillness, higher consciousness and rising above ego.

But newly released Justice Department files tell a far messier story — one that places the spiritual author in frequent, familiar contact with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The documents, reviewed by the Daily Mail, detail a surprisingly chummy relationship that began in 2016 — long after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor and just a few years before his 2019 death in a Manhattan jail cell.

What emerges from the emails and texts isn’t a fleeting acquaintance.

It’s a steady back-and-forth: invitations, late-night philosophy, crude jokes, and repeated visits to Epstein’s properties in Manhattan and Palm Beach.

Public enlightenment, private access — that’s the uncomfortable contrast.

“God Is a Construct. Cute Girls Are Real.”

Some of the exchanges veer into territory that feels jarringly adolescent for two aging, powerful men.

In one message, Chopra wrote: “God is a construct.

Cute girls are real.” In another, while referencing a Vatican event where he was to speak alongside the Pope, he joked, “Only sinners are invited.”

The banter often mixed metaphysics with sexual innuendo.

They riffed on “divine transcendence” and “God in drag.” Epstein teased; Chopra played along.

At times it sounded like teenage locker-room humor layered awkwardly over pseudo-spiritual musings.

Chopra, who has been married to his wife Rita for 56 years, mentioned her only once in the messages reviewed.

Visits to Mansions — Even When Epstein Wasn’t There

The files show that Chopra visited Epstein’s Manhattan mansion regularly and sometimes stopped by for short stays.

There were also references to Epstein’s Palm Beach estate, his ranch near Santa Fe, his Paris apartment, and his private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In one email chain, someone wrote: “Friday at 3:30 Deepak is coming by, you are of course his favorite.”

In another, Chopra thanked Epstein “for a v lovely experience.”

The context isn’t always clear — but the tone is unmistakably warm.

Epstein even ordered monogrammed shirts for Chopra, something he was known to do when courting new friends.

Name-Dropping, Power Circles and “Woo Woo”

The relationship extended into elite social circles.

Within two months of meeting, Epstein referred to Chopra as “one of the family.”

Through Epstein, Chopra was introduced to figures including former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak, Nobel Prize–winning scientist Richard Axel, and film director Woody Allen and his wife Soon-Yi Previn.

Other names floated through their conversations: business leaders, diplomats, royalty, celebrities.

Epstein, for his part, sometimes mocked Chopra’s spiritual teachings as “woo woo” in emails to tech billionaire Peter Thiel.

Still, he donated at least $50,000 to Chopra’s nonprofit.

The two even discussed building an app and a board game together.

For a man who frequently criticized mainstream science, Chopra appeared keen to navigate what he called the “intellectual club.”

He asked Epstein for mentoring so he wouldn’t “irk the big boys in academia.”

The Women, the Jokes and the Uneasy Subtext

Much of their chatter revolved around women — their appearances, their intellect, their allure.

Chopra wrote openly about enjoying the company of “younger intellectually sharp and self-aware women.”

Epstein bragged about meeting women on the street.

They admired the looks of former Saudi royal Ameera Al-Taweel and mentioned Ivanka Trump attending a Chopra workshop.

At one point, Chopra cautioned Epstein not to make sex jokes about a newly hired executive because of her family connections to Saudi Aramco.

The tone fluctuated between philosophical rambling and crude winks.

When Chopra signed off a message with “Sending love,” Epstein replied, “Can you send it in female form?” Chopra responded with laughter.

The exchanges raise uncomfortable questions, not necessarily about criminal conduct, but about judgment and proximity.

Public Denial, Private Messages

Chopra has denied any involvement in wrongdoing.

In a February 4 post on X, he described the tone of the emails as “poor judgement” but insisted he was never involved in criminal or exploitative activity.

He characterized his contact with Epstein as limited and unrelated to abuse.

Last week, he was seen arriving in Los Angeles — his first public appearance since the documents surfaced.

When questioned at the airport, he repeatedly deflected: “You decide.” “You do your own work and find out.”

“I’m not answering.” At one point, he added cryptically, “It will all come to light.”

The Boredom of Powerful Men

Beyond the bravado and banter, the correspondence also hints at something else: ennui.

Both men complained about boredom.

Chopra spoke of silent retreats and shifting toward “profound peace.”

Epstein warned him that it sounded “more dead than alive.” In 2019, as negative headlines intensified, Epstein texted about “another round of very bad press.”

Chopra’s advice? “Stay silent. Meditate.”

That was months before Epstein’s arrest in July 2019 and his death the following month while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

The Bigger Context

Epstein cultivated relationships with academics, politicians, tech billionaires and celebrities.

His strategy was well-documented: access buys credibility; credibility buys more access.

He donated to universities, funded research, and inserted himself into elite networks.

Chopra, a bestselling author of titles like The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, has long blurred the line between science and spirituality — sometimes drawing criticism from researchers who accused him of pseudoscience.

In the emails, he even shared with Epstein harsh critiques from scientists calling him a narcissist and celebrity crank.

Epstein, for his part, appeared to relish positioning himself as gatekeeper to influence.

What’s Next?

The release of these files is unlikely to bring criminal consequences for Chopra, given that no evidence has surfaced tying him to Epstein’s crimes.

But reputationally, the damage could linger.

Chopra’s brand has always rested on moral authority, mindfulness and ethical clarity.

The tone of these exchanges — flippant, sometimes lewd — clashes with that image.

Whether his audience sees this as a lapse in tone or a deeper character flaw may determine how lasting the fallout becomes.

For now, Chopra appears to be leaning on the strategy he advised Epstein: silence and meditation.

Summary

Newly released Justice Department documents reveal that Deepak Chopra maintained a friendly and frequent correspondence with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein beginning in 2016.

Their exchanges blended metaphysical discussion, social climbing and crude humor, and show Chopra visiting Epstein’s properties and engaging in banter about women and media scrutiny.

Chopra has acknowledged “poor judgement in tone” but denies any involvement in criminal conduct.

While no evidence links him to Epstein’s crimes, the revelations cast an uncomfortable shadow over the spiritual leader’s public persona — and leave open questions about judgment, proximity and the company one keeps.
