Nick Woltemade scores the winning goal to secure Newcastle’s first Premier League victory of the season against Wolves at St James’ Park

Newcastle finally secured their first win of the Premier League season on Saturday, and much of the credit went to new club-record signing Nick Woltemade. The German striker, who cost the Magpies £69million, headed the game’s only goal in the 30th minute against Wolves and left the pitch to a standing ovation after the hour mark.

Dressing Room Celebrations

Eddie Howe revealed that the Newcastle squad were full of praise for their big-money debutant.

With Alexander Isak absent after his deadline-day move to Liverpool, the team had struggled in front of goal, making Woltemade’s contribution even more crucial.

“There was a lot of love for Nick after the game and plenty of pats on the back,” Howe said. “It was a great moment for him.

You could see his technical qualities and intelligence, but most importantly for a striker, he was in the right place at the right time to finish the ball.

I’m really pleased for him personally. This helps settle him down and relax him. He’s a humble guy and just wants to do well.”

Woltemade on His Newcastle Debut

The striker, 23, had been linked with Bayern Munich all summer, but his move to Newcastle came together quickly. He said he immediately felt welcomed by the club and coaching staff.

“When the talks started, I felt really welcome straight away,” Woltemade said.

“The coach gave me such a good feeling, and I felt confident on the pitch. Everyone knew what they had to do, and the win was really important.

The Premier League is tough, and I had to come off because of cramps, but the atmosphere was amazing. The team played really well and involved me a lot.”

Howe’s Eye for Talent

Howe first noticed Woltemade in the Bundesliga last season and was impressed by his creativity and distinctive playing style.

“He’s an unusual player and very distinctive,” Howe explained.

“I really saw him last season and then in the Under-21 tournament, he was outstanding.

The more you watch him, the more you realise how different he is from the typical profile. He’s very creative, with little touches and passes that can open up stubborn defensive lines.

Physically, he still has some work to do to adapt to this level, but the potential is huge.”

A Promising Start

Woltemade’s debut goal not only gave Newcastle a much-needed victory but also showcased why the club invested heavily in him.

With his technical skill, creativity, and the dressing room’s support, he looks set to make a significant impact in the Premier League this season.
