Women for Zero Hunger Program 2026 Invites African Nonprofits to Apply for Funding and Mentorship to Strengthen Women’s Economic Empowerment and Food Security

The Women for Zero Hunger Program 2026, a collaborative effort by WIA Philanthropy and Stop Hunger, is now calling on African-based nonprofits to step forward.

The initiative is designed to empower women economically while strengthening food security across the continent — a proven formula for tackling hunger in a sustainable way.

Organisations with impactful local projects that improve women’s income opportunities and bolster community food systems are exactly who this programme is looking for.

Who Can Apply

If your organisation is based in Africa and works to improve women’s economic autonomy while addressing hunger, this opportunity could be a perfect fit.

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be a nonprofit, NGO, association, or foundation with a structured team and governance

  • Operate in one of the 2026 focus countries: Benin, Botswana, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Morocco, Namibia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Tunisia

  • Run initiatives that directly advance women’s economic empowerment

  • Work on food security and hunger reduction, such as production, processing, distribution, or improving access to nutritious food

  • Be ready to participate in a multi-stage selection process including webinars, full applications, evaluations, and interviews

This is especially relevant for organisations that already have ongoing projects with measurable impact potential.

What Laureates Will Receive

Three organisations selected as 2026 laureates will benefit from a mix of funding, mentoring, and exposure:

Project Funding & Financial Support

Grants will be provided to implement or scale solutions that focus on women’s empowerment and food security.

Capacity Building & Mentorship

Selected organisations enter a six-month tailored support programme, offering guidance on strategy, operations, and consolidating impact.

Impact Measurement Guidance

Practical frameworks and mentoring will help organisations measure and communicate their outcomes effectively, ensuring long-term results.

Increased Visibility

Laureates gain exposure through Stop Hunger and WIA Philanthropy networks, including digital storytelling and communications support to highlight their work.

How the Selection Process Works

The 2026 programme follows a clear, step-by-step process to make it easy for organisations to participate and grow:

  1. Call for Expressions of Interest – Fill a short online form with basic details about your organisation and project.

  2. Capacity Building Webinars – Shortlisted organisations attend webinars to prepare for the full application.

  3. Full Application Submission – Submit detailed organisational and project documents.

  4. Due Diligence & Interviews – Virtual evaluations and governance checks.

  5. Final Jury & Laureate Selection – An external jury selects three winners for funding and support.

This transparent process also offers guidance at every stage, helping organisations strengthen proposals and impact strategies.
