The Miss America crown has a new owner, but not everyone is impressed with how the coronation was captured on camera. Cassie Donegan, 27, won the Miss America 2026 title after claiming the New York state crown in July, stepping into the spotlight as the next face of the iconic pageant.
Glamour and Glitter Meet Online Criticism
A TikTok video shared by the official Miss America account quickly went viral—but not all for the right reasons.
The clip shows Cassie walking backstage toward an elevator in a dazzling white open-back gown with a high slit and glittering bodice.
She spins around and flashes a radiant smile, perfectly embodying pageant poise.
Moments later, after the elevator doors reopen, she emerges in a new ensemble, clutching a massive bouquet of red roses and proudly wearing her Miss America sash and crown.
However, social media critics zeroed in on her makeup, claiming her concealer shade didn’t match her skin tone.
Comments ranged from playful teasing to outright critique:
-
“Congrats love! Let’s get you a new makeup artist.”
-
“Love it but we need someone to fix her concealer. It’s too white and drowns her out.”
-
“Her makeup is questionable.”
Not everyone agreed, with some defending the look:
-
“Her makeup is literally good; the bright lighting just alters the appearance.”
-
“It genuinely did not look bad lol. But okay.”
Triumph Over 52 Competitors
Cassie emerged victorious from a field of more than 52 contestants representing all 50 states.
First runner-up was Miss Texas, Sadie Schiermeyer, while second runner-up went to Miss Florida, Paris Richardson.
The crown was passed down by former Miss America Abbie Stockard from Alabama, and Cassie also received a $50,000 tuition scholarship as part of her prize.
Staying True to Yourself
During the rapid-answer round, Cassie impressed judges and viewers alike with her views on authenticity and self-expression.
“I believe that being true to yourself 100 percent is the most important thing that you can do, and if that includes your self-expression through piercings or tattoos, then 100 percent do it,” she said.
“No one has the right to tell you what you can do with your own body. This is your vessel, and you should be able to walk around proudly in it.”
A Platform for Ambitious Women
Cassie, who is also a singer and actor, won a talent award for her vocal performance at the Miss America 2026 Talent Competition.
She expressed excitement about what the title means for her future:
“Miss America has always been a powerful springboard for ambitious women to turn their dreams into reality.
I am honored to represent an organization that provides scholarships, resources, and a platform for women to lead — and I’m deeply grateful for the chance to bring that mission to life.”
While her makeup moment caused a stir online, Cassie’s confidence, talent, and message about authenticity are what truly define her reign as Miss America 2026.
