This month marks a milestone for one of my favourite fashion labels – Autograph at Marks & Spencer turns 25.
For much of that time, I’ve quietly adored this line.
Even now, I still reach for my A-line black leather skirt purchased over 15 years ago, and my round-neck cashmere jumpers have become wardrobe staples.
And the white T-shirts? Well, let’s just say they’ve been quietly conquering my closet for years.
Autograph has a way of enduring like few other high-street labels.
How Autograph Set the Standard
Launched in 2000, Autograph was designed to lure style-conscious shoppers back to M&S with elevated, wearable fashion.
The label attracted serious design talent, with contributions from the likes of Julien Macdonald, Katharine Hamnett, and Betty Jackson.
Even back then, prices were reasonable for the quality – while many pieces started at £25, the standout was a buttery-soft, knee-length leather coat by Betty Jackson priced at £450.
For something that lasts decades, that’s a fair deal.
Why Autograph Still Shines
M&S has always had a tricky balancing act – trying to cater to everyone on the high street.
But Autograph has remained true to its original vision: premium essentials with a polished, minimalist touch.
In a world dominated by fast fashion, it’s one of the few places you can still find natural fibres like cashmere, linen, leather, and silk crafted with care.
For those new to M&S, the fashion lines are divided into Collection (basics), Per Una (playful/fussy), and Autograph, the jewel in the crown.
You can feel the difference instantly – the pieces that look and feel the most expensive almost always come from Autograph.
The Birthday Collection You’ll Want
With the 25th anniversary collection launching this week, it’s clear that Autograph hasn’t lost its identity.
Some favourites include the chiffon pleat skirt (£90), which moves beautifully, and the leather bomber jacket (£250) – classic pieces that will carry you through seasons.
Back in 2015, Autograph hit a high-fashion moment when Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo were spotted in the iconic suede skirt that had fashion editors scrambling.
This year, the chocolate suede bag (£80) has that same covetable feel, ready to become a must-have accessory this autumn.
Dark wash flared jeans (£60) paired with the matching jacket (£56) channel a fresh A/W catwalk vibe.
Bold, Timeless Pieces
For those with adventurous taste, the snakeskin leather suit (jacket £299, trousers £250) makes a statement, while the cappuccino suit (blazer £120, trousers £80) offers timeless sophistication.
Autograph manages that balance effortlessly – trend-led yet enduring, bold yet wearable.
Why Autograph Continues to Win
Even after 25 years, Autograph proves it’s not just another high-street label.
Its refined silhouettes, quality fabrics, and considered designs continue to capture the attention of style-conscious shoppers.
If you’re looking to update your wardrobe this autumn, Autograph remains the go-to destination at M&S.
Happy 25th birthday, Autograph – here’s to another quarter-century of understated style and wardrobe staples that last.
