African Democratic Congress Expels Aminu Muhammad and Suspends Babayo Musa Garba Over Alleged Impersonation and Destabilization Attempts in Bauchi State

The Bauchi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has found itself in the middle of a heated internal dispute, announcing on Sunday the expulsion of Aminu Muhammad, a factional chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), and the suspension of his associate, Babayo Musa Garba.

The move comes after allegations that the duo impersonated party officials and attempted to destabilize the party’s growing influence in the state.

Party Reaffirms Leadership

Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi, the ADC’s Assistant Publicity Secretary, Harsanu Guyaba, reaffirmed the leadership of the State Chairman, Haruna Hassan.

He condemned what he described as “impostors and disgruntled elements” who claimed to have suspended the chairman and replaced him with his deputy, Mamuda Hassan Tabla, alleging anti-party activities.

Guyaba emphasized, “The action of these self-acclaimed impostors is nothing but a desperate attempt to destabilize the growing strength, popularity, and unity of the party in Bauchi State.

Their conduct is condemnable and alien to the values and principles of our great party.”

Expulsion and Suspension Officially Declared

According to Guyaba, Aminu Muhammad had already been expelled, while Babayo Musa Garba was suspended, as documented in letters dated January 2, 2026.

He stressed that the party does not recognize any structure known as ALGON within its fold.

“The two individuals have no locus standi to speak for or act on behalf of the party.

Aminu Muhammad is an expelled member, while Babayo Musa Garba remains under suspension.

The ADC does not recognize anything like ALGON as mischievously claimed,” Guyaba said.

He further urged party members and the general public to disregard any statements credited to the duo and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to take note of the developments.

Party Leadership Remains United

Guyaba assured party faithful that the ADC leadership in Bauchi State remains united and committed to building a political platform founded on internal democracy, justice, and credible leadership.

Aminu Muhammad Denies Expulsion

In response, Aminu Muhammad rejected claims of his expulsion, insisting that he has been a card-carrying member of the ADC in Bauchi State for the past eight years.

He stated he never received any official expulsion letter and continues to regard himself as chairman of the ALGON structure within the party.

Muhammad explained that the chairmen of the 20 local government ADC chapters had, on January 17, 2026, invited the State Chairman, Haruna Hassan, to appear before a disciplinary committee over alleged breaches of the party constitution, anti-party actions, and conduct likely to cause division within the party.

Suspension of State Chairman

Muhammad claimed the State Chairman failed to respond to the invitation and that, in line with Article 15(C)(3) of the ADC Constitution, the disciplinary committee resolved to suspend him with immediate effect.

He added that the Deputy State Chairman, Mahmood Tabla, was directed to assume office in an acting capacity pending a valid congress, while the suspended chairman retains the right to appeal within 14 days.

A Divided Picture Emerges

The unfolding dispute highlights a deep rift within the ADC in Bauchi State.

On one side, the official party leadership asserts the expulsion and suspension of members seeking to destabilize the party.

On the other, Aminu Muhammad and his supporters insist their actions are legitimate, pointing to internal disciplinary mechanisms as justification for their claims.

The situation remains tense, with both sides appealing to party members and external authorities to validate their positions.
