Dundee man speaks out after viral video shows schoolgirl brandishing knife and axe in housing estate

A video from a Dundee housing estate showing a young schoolgirl brandishing a knife and an axe quickly went viral, drawing reactions from social media figures including Elon Musk and Tommy Robinson.

Many online claimed the man filming the encounter was a “migrant,” while some praised the girl as a “Braveheart” defending her homeland.

The reality, however, tells a very different story.

Man at Center of Viral Clip Speaks Out

The man being threatened, Fatos Ali Dumana, 21, has lived in the UK legally for four years with his wife and their eight-month-old baby.

Contrary to online claims, he is not a recent arrival by boat; he moved to Britain from Bulgaria in June 2021.

Speaking from his Dundee home, Mr Dumana explained the incident from his perspective:

“I never touched her. I didn’t hit her, I swear on my life. I have a baby now—I would never hurt someone.

If she’s only 12, why was she messing with me and carrying weapons?”

He stressed that the confrontation occurred while he was simply walking to the shop with his wife.

Police Confirm No Wrongdoing

Police sources have confirmed that there is no evidence to suggest Mr Dumana committed any offence or was an illegal migrant.

The girl involved has been charged with possession of offensive weapons.

Chief Superintendent Nicola Russell of Police Scotland said:

“We are aware of misinformation being shared on social media. A 12-year-old girl has been charged with being in possession of offensive weapons.

Our enquiries are ongoing, and we urge the public not to speculate or share false information.”

Background on Fatos Ali Dumana

Originally from Kazanlak, Bulgaria, Mr Dumana describes himself online as “a gentleman from the Kingdom.”

Since moving to Dundee, he has lived in a council property with his wife, Fatos Yulianova, 19, and has been building a family life. They welcomed a baby boy in December 2024.

He has worked in local Indian and Thai restaurants, studied English at Coleg Cambria in Wrexham, and enjoys sharing family moments and dance videos on TikTok.

What Happened in the Video

The incident took place on a roadside grass verge near Dundee’s High Street.

In the clip, the young girl, wearing torn jogging bottoms and a navy T-shirt, is held back by another girl claiming to be her sister.

The girl brandishes a knife and an axe while shouting at Mr Dumana, who calmly asks her to show the weapons.

At one point, his wife is heard speaking in Bulgarian off-camera, and Mr Dumana responds in the same language.

Despite the tension, the confrontation ended without physical harm.

Community and Online Reaction

The video has been viewed millions of times, fueling online misinformation and conspiracy theories.

Mr Dumana has spoken out to correct the record, emphasizing that he did nothing wrong and is living a normal family life in Dundee.

Former Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf also weighed in on the controversy, dismissing far-right claims as “full of bulls***.”

Police Urge Calm and Accurate Reporting

Police continue their investigation, focusing on the possession of offensive weapons by the girl.

Officers confirmed their attendance at the scene, spoke with Mr Dumana, but no arrests were made against him.

Chief Superintendent Russell reminded the public:

“We would like to thank the local community for their help and urge people not to share misinformation or speculate about the circumstances.”
