Keegan Bradley Chooses Not to Pick Himself for Ryder Cup Team in New York Despite Pressure from Former President Donald Trump

In a surprising move that bucks even presidential opinion, Keegan Bradley has chosen not to pick himself for Team USA in next month’s Ryder Cup clash against Europe.

The decision marks a bold step from the 39-year-old captain, who has been enjoying what he describes as “the most incredible year” of his career.

Captain’s Picks Announced

Bradley revealed his six captain’s picks on Wednesday, completing the lineup for the U.S. team heading to Bethpage Black in New York.

The selections include Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay, and Sam Burns.

These choices join players who had already qualified automatically: World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, and LIV star Bryson DeChambeau.

Skipping Himself Despite Pressure

Despite ranking No. 11 in the world and finishing 11th in the qualifying race, Bradley decided against choosing himself.

His decision came amid mounting pressure to play, most notably from former President Donald Trump, who publicly stated Bradley should “definitely” be on the team. Trump is also set to attend the opening round of the Ryder Cup.

Bradley, however, revealed that the choice had been made “a while ago” and insisted, “I know 100 percent this is the right choice.”

He also credited his strong captain’s picks for making the decision easier.

Spotlight on Key Players

Highlighting his picks, Bradley called Justin Thomas “the heartbeat of our team,” noting the two-time major champion was “made to play Ryder Cups.”

Collin Morikawa described the challenge of facing Europe as a “privilege,” while rookie Ben Griffin called his selection “the biggest honor.”

Cameron Young, a New Yorker, previously set the amateur course record at Bethpage Black, adding local pride to the roster.

Bradley also emphasized that the team will “rely heavily” on Patrick Cantlay and praised Sam Burns as the best putter on the planet.

Europe’s Captain to Reveal Picks Soon

European captain Luke Donald is set to announce his selections for the 45th Ryder Cup on September 1, setting the stage for what promises to be another thrilling showdown between the continents.
