When you own a lakeside villa worth an estimated $100 million, showing it off to friends is practically a given.
George and Amal Clooney did just that this week, welcoming an A-list group of guests to their stunning Villa Oleandra on the shores of Lake Como.
The couple, along with their eight-year-old twins Ella and Alexander, enjoyed a sunny day departing the villa by motorboat and heading a few miles down the lake for a lively lunch at the exclusive Villa d’Este.
Who Was on the Guest List
The Clooneys’ party included some serious Hollywood heavyweights.
Adam Sandler, famous for Happy Gilmore, was among the guests, along with multiple Oscar-nominated director Greta Gerwig and her husband, Noah Baumbach.
Oscar-winning actors Jim Broadbent and Laura Dern were also on board.
Other stars joining the fun included American actors Billy Crudup, Grace Edwards, and Patrick Wilson.
Representing the younger generation of Hollywood, actress Eve Hewson, daughter of U2’s Bono, and Riley Keough, Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, were there too.
The only guest with a possible local connection was Italian-German actress Alba Rohrwacher.
From Villa Oleandra to Venice
After their stay at Villa Oleandra, the Clooneys and many of their celebrity guests are expected to head east to the Venice Film Festival, which kicks off later this week.
Despite frequent speculation about selling Villa Oleandra, the Clooneys always seem to hold onto it.
George bought the property from the Heinz family in 2002 for just €10 million.
Today, the 25-room home is valued at over $100 million, according to the Wall Street Journal, and Clooney’s presence has famously driven a real estate boom in the area.
Lake Como Holds Special Memories
Lake Como isn’t just a luxury retreat — it’s where George met Amal in 2013.
In a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Clooney recalled, “I thought she was beautiful, and I thought she was funny and obviously smart.”
The villa has long been a hub for Hollywood glamour. In 2004, the cast of Ocean’s Twelve visited the home.
Emily Blunt and John Krasinski tied the knot there in 2010 after George repeatedly offered the villa for their wedding.
Jennifer Aniston even made the space her temporary home while filming Murder Mystery in 2018.
Clooney Gives Back to the Community
The Clooneys have also used Villa Oleandra as a platform for philanthropy.
In 2019, George partnered with Omaze to raise funds for the Clooney Foundation for Justice, offering a contest where winners could meet the couple, enjoy lunch at the villa, and receive round-trip airfare and accommodations.
The actor has also supported the local area during tough times.
After heavy rain and landslides struck Lake Como in 2021, George assessed the damage in person and pledged support, saying the city would bounce back stronger.
Local mayor Roberto Pozzi praised Clooney’s hands-on approach during the recovery.
A Truly International Lifestyle
Villa Oleandra is just one of several homes the Clooneys own around the world, including properties in France, Britain, and Los Angeles.
With their twins growing up amidst lakeside luxury, Hollywood glamour, and globe-trotting adventures, the Clooney family continues to balance family life with star-studded social and philanthropic engagements.
