Jadon Sancho’s future in football has once again become the subject of debate, and this time, Roma’s sporting director Frederic Massara has stepped in with some blunt words.
The Manchester United winger, who has struggled to settle during his four years at Old Trafford, is edging closer to an exit—but his next move is far from clear.
United Ready to Cut Ties
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has already made his position clear: Sancho is no longer part of his plans.
With the winger’s contract set to expire next summer, United are prepared to move him on before he leaves for free.
For Sancho, 25, the message is obvious—his time in Manchester is coming to an end.
Chelsea Interest Fades Away
At one stage, a return to Chelsea looked like the most likely outcome.
Sancho spent last season on loan at Stamford Bridge, and there were expectations that the London club would push for a permanent deal.
But Enzo Maresca’s side ultimately decided against signing him, leaving the England international searching for a new destination.
Roma Talks Stall Over Motivation
Roma appeared to be a serious contender, holding discussions over bringing Sancho to Serie A.
However, Massara has cast doubt on the move, pointing to a lack of drive from the player himself.
“Sancho is a strong player who has been linked with all the Italian clubs,” Massara explained to SportMediaset.
“Right now, it’s only an idea. The conditions don’t seem right, and most importantly, the motivation to push these negotiations forward isn’t there.”
Gasperini Keeps Hope Alive
Despite Massara’s skepticism, Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini isn’t ruling the transfer out just yet.
He insists that Sancho has not rejected the club outright, suggesting the door remains open.
“Sancho never said no to Roma,” Gasperini said. “We still have eight days.
This is already a good team, but in football, anything can happen—the worst and the best.”
Roma’s Current Standing
Roma head into the new season on the back of a fifth-place Serie A finish, which secured them Europa League football.
The club went through a turbulent campaign with multiple managerial changes before Claudio Ranieri returned for a third stint.
Ranieri has since transitioned into an advisory role, leaving Gasperini to steer the team forward.
What’s Next for Sancho?
With just days left in the transfer window, Sancho faces a crucial decision.
His time at United looks set to close, Chelsea are out of the picture, and Roma remain undecided.
The question is whether Sancho will find the motivation Massara claims is missing—or if another club will step in at the last minute.
