Jigawa Police Arrest Three Suspects as Joint Security Forces Bust Armed Robbery and Currency Fraud Ring in Birnin Kudu Nigeria

Security agencies in Jigawa State are tightening the net on criminal activity, sending a clear message that coordinated policing is gaining momentum.

Another joint operation has now led to fresh arrests, reinforcing ongoing efforts to disrupt robbery and fraud networks across the state.

Joint Security Team Moves In

The latest arrests followed a coordinated operation involving the Police, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilante groups.

According to the Jigawa State Police Command, the operation was carried out on January 10, 2026, as part of sustained security sweeps across high-risk areas.

Where the Arrests Happened

Police said the operation targeted Bariki Fulani Settlement, Rugar Fulani, and Kwangara Village, all located within the Sundumina District of Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.

These areas were identified through intelligence gathering as locations linked to suspected criminal activity.

Suspects Now in Custody

Three suspects were arrested during the operation and have been identified as Adamu Abubakar, 30; Sale Yakubu, 30; and Mamman Saidu, 17.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed that all three are currently in custody while investigations continue.

Weapons, Cash, and Fake Currency Recovered

During the raid, security operatives recovered several items believed to be linked to criminal activities.

These include a locally made gun, two red Boxer motorcycles, fake Somali shillings, mobile phones, a power bank, as well as a knife and a machete.

Police also recovered ₦289,620, which is suspected to be proceeds from criminal operations.

How the Alleged Scam Worked

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects used deception as their main tactic.

According to police findings, victims were allegedly lured to the area under the pretense of exchanging foreign currency.

Once isolated, they were reportedly robbed of cash and other valuables.

Part of a Wider Security Push

This arrest adds to a growing list of recent successes by the Jigawa State Police Command.

Earlier in January, security operatives arrested several suspects across the state, recovering firearms, drugs, stolen motorcycles, household items, and other valuables during multiple operations.

Police Leadership Reacts

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, praised officers involved in the latest joint operation, describing it as a strong example of effective inter-agency collaboration.

He reaffirmed the commitment of all security agencies in Jigawa to maintaining peace and preventing crime.

What’s Next?

Police say investigations are still ongoing, with a focus on uncovering wider criminal networks connected to the suspects.

Authorities have assured the public that those found culpable will be prosecuted diligently.

Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by sharing timely and credible information that could help prevent future crimes.
