Nigeria Police Arrest Three Suspects in Mowe Over Alleged Conspiracy and Unlawful Possession of a Human Skull in Ogun State

What began as a routine day in Mowe quickly turned unsettling after police uncovered a disturbing discovery that has left residents uneasy.

Security operatives moved in on three individuals accused of being linked to the illegal possession of a human skull, sparking renewed conversations about ritual-related crimes in Ogun State.

Police Confirm Arrest of Three Suspects in Mowe

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that three suspects were arrested in Mowe over allegations of conspiracy and unlawful possession of a human skull.

The arrest, which took place on January 8, 2026, was officially announced on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi.

According to Oluseyi, the suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led operations and were immediately taken into custody for questioning.

Suspects Moved to Abeokuta for Deeper Investigation

Following their arrest, the police wasted no time transferring the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Authorities say this move is aimed at allowing experienced detectives to thoroughly examine the case and uncover all relevant details.

The police spokesperson confirmed that investigations are ongoing and promised updates as new information emerges.

Trader Shares Insight From the Neighborhood

A trader operating near the area where the suspects reside offered insight into the incident, although he chose to remain anonymous.

According to him, there is a belief among locals that the crime may not have been committed within the community itself.

“They likely carried out the act somewhere else, but they were traced back to where they live,” the trader explained, hinting at how law enforcement tracked the suspects to Mowe.

Police Dig Deeper Into the Origin of the Skull

Investigators are now focused on determining where the human skull came from and what role each suspect played in the alleged crime.

Police say understanding the source of the skull will be crucial in establishing whether the case is linked to ritual practices or other criminal networks.

The Command has reassured the public that no stone will be left unturned as the investigation continues.

A Pattern That Raises Red Flags Across Ogun State

This incident is not isolated.

In August 2025, the Ogun State Police Command began prosecuting two men, Kadir Owolabi and Jamiu Yisa, after they were found in possession of three human skulls in the Ijebu area of the state.

Owolabi was intercepted while riding a motorcycle along the Ijebu Ode–Ibadan Expressway near Refugees Camp Junction in Oru Ijebu.

Further investigations later led detectives to arrest 53-year-old Yisa behind the Ijebu Ode Local Government Secretariat.

What Happens Next?

The three suspects arrested in Mowe will remain in custody while detectives at SCIID continue their investigation.

If sufficient evidence is gathered, the police are expected to formally charge them to court.

Meanwhile, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, as authorities intensify efforts to curb crimes involving human body parts across the state.
