Public anger erupted after a viral video surfaced showing a horrific case involving a 15-year-old girl.
The footage, shared by the victim’s sister on January 3, recounted how a man allegedly forced his way into the girl’s home during the Christmas period, threatened her with a knife, and physically assaulted her.
The post quickly drew nationwide attention, putting pressure on the authorities to act.
Suspect Arrested and Under Investigation
Following the public uproar, the Imo State Police Command arrested 24-year-old Wisdom Onyeaju from Umuekweye, Irete in the Owerri-West Local Government Area.
The suspect is now in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where he is undergoing a detailed investigation.
According to the police, once the probe is complete, Onyeaju will be formally charged and arraigned in court.
Allegations of Police Misconduct
The viral video didn’t just highlight the alleged assault—it also exposed claims of police corruption.
The victim’s sister alleged that officers at a nearby police station demanded ₦100,000 from the family before agreeing to take the girl’s statement.
This accusation triggered widespread condemnation and calls for accountability within the police force.
Officers Facing Disciplinary Action
Responding to the backlash, the Imo State Police confirmed that officers suspected of professional misconduct have been identified and detained.
An orderly room trial has been scheduled for Monday, January 12, 2026, to address the allegations in line with existing police regulations.

DSP Okoye Henry, the state Police Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the command remains committed to professionalism, transparency, and accountability.
The authorities assured the public that justice will be served for the victim while maintaining proper legal procedures for the suspect and involved officers.
