Security in Oloka Village, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, was thrown into turmoil when gunmen launched a deadly raid on the National Park Service (NPS) office late Tuesday night.

The attack claimed the lives of five forest rangers, leaving the community in shock and prompting swift action from law enforcement.

According to preliminary findings, about 12 gunmen emerged from nearby bushes around 11:30 pm, firing sporadically at the NPS office before fleeing the scene.

The assault appeared to be specifically targeted at the National Forest Rangers, raising concerns over the safety of personnel in the area.

Oyo State Police Commissioner, Femi Haruna, visited the scene on Wednesday alongside heads of sister security agencies and the Commandant of the National Forest Rangers.

He assured the residents that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, was committed to preventing similar attacks in the future.
