Tristan Tate defends UFC star Dricus du Plessis in South Africa after critics accuse the fighter of racism over political comments

When controversy sparks in the MMA world, it doesn’t take long for strong voices to join the debate.

This time, Tristan Tate – brother of Andrew Tate – has come out publicly in support of UFC star Dricus du Plessis after the South African fighter was branded “racist” by some critics.

Tristan, much like his brother, is never shy about speaking his mind.

Known for his outspoken takes on politics, farm killings, and his backing of Donald Trump, he has now stepped into the spotlight to defend Dricus against what he calls “unjustified hate.”

Tristan’s Message of Support

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Tristan made it clear where he stood. Tagging Dricus directly, he wrote:

“The hate @dricusduplessis is getting from people is totally unjustified. Chin up, champ, ignore the noise.”

This isn’t the first time Tristan has spoken out in defense of the fighter.

He previously fired back at UFC rival Israel Adesanya, who once claimed du Plessis wasn’t truly African because he is white.

Tristan clapped back, calling that line of thinking “super racist,” and argued that both Dricus and Elon Musk are African by birth and history.

Dricus’ Praise for Trump and Musk

The criticism against du Plessis largely stems from his political comments.

Earlier this year, he publicly praised U.S. President Donald Trump, who has accused South Africa of pushing a so-called “white genocide” narrative.

“He is amazing, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting him,” Dricus said of Trump.

“He’s holding many people and countries accountable… it’s amazing to see.”

The fighter also gave credit to fellow South African Elon Musk, applauding him for “doing the right thing.”

Strong Words for the South African Government

Dricus has also made headlines for his blunt views on South African politics.

Speaking in an interview ahead of a UFC title fight, he slammed President Cyril Ramaphosa and the ruling government.

“It’s the worst government in the world by a long shot,” he said.

“We are truly and exceptionally s**t… it’s the most corrupt in the world.”

While he praised the people of South Africa and the beauty of the country, his criticism of leadership was scathing.

Of President Ramaphosa, he added: “He takes all the money.”

Where Do You Stand?

With Tristan Tate doubling down in defense of Dricus du Plessis, the debate is only getting louder.

Supporters see the South African fighter as a truth-teller who’s unafraid to call things out, while critics believe his comments cross into dangerous territory.

The question now is – do you side with Tristan and Dricus, or with their critics?
