Nigerian Police dismisses sexual harassment investigation claims against Pastor Chris Okafor after online reports circulate

The Lagos State Police Command has clarified that Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has not ordered any investigation into alleged sexual harassment involving Pastor Chris Okafor.

The statement comes after several online reports suggested otherwise, which the police have now described as false and misleading.

CP was only informed of social media claims

Speaking with Vanguard, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Adebisi Abimbola, explained that the matter first came to the CP’s attention through screenshots and social media posts.

These posts contained unverified claims related to murder allegations against Pastor Okafor, not sexual harassment.

SP Abimbola emphasized, “At no point did the CP order an investigation into sexual harassment. That was never discussed.”

Clarifying the role of the Criminal Investigation Department

The CP instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to verify the authenticity of the murder allegations, ensuring proper oversight. The police are simply confirming whether the social media claims have any basis in fact.

“The CP only said we should not turn a deaf ear and should determine whether the alleged murder claims are true. Nothing about sexual harassment was ever part of the discussion,” SP Abimbola said.

No invitations or formal investigations issued

SP Abimbola also confirmed that neither Pastor Okafor nor any other individuals have been invited by the police for questioning. The command’s social media and intelligence teams are still gathering information related to the alleged murder claims.

“I was shocked when I saw claims that the pastor was being investigated for sexual harassment. That was never part of our discussion,” she added.

Police urge public and media to avoid speculation

The Lagos State Police has urged both the public and journalists to avoid jumping to conclusions based on unverified online content. SP Abimbola reiterated:

“The CP never ordered an investigation into sexual harassment. We are only verifying claims circulating online regarding alleged murder.”

Authorities stressed that the command is committed to transparency and due process in handling all allegations.

What’s next?

The police are continuing to examine the social media posts related to the alleged murder claims. Updates will be provided once the verification process is complete.

Meanwhile, the public is advised to refrain from spreading rumors or assuming investigations are underway without official confirmation.
