Josie Gibson has shared a deeply personal story about a frightening health scare she faced in 2023.
The 40-year-old This Morning star discovered a lump in her left breast implant, which prompted her to visit a doctor immediately.
The scare ultimately led her to have both implants removed—a decision she says brought her “peace of mind.”
Facing the Scare Head-On
Speaking for the first time about the ordeal, Josie told The Sun on Sunday: “I had a big lump underneath my left boob, and I was really worried about it.
You could see it protruding—the breast had changed shape—so I was getting a little frightened.”
A visit to her GP confirmed it was her breast implant causing the issue, and Josie went ahead with their removal.
“For me, it was one of the best things I’ve done,” she added.
Raising Awareness with Breast Cancer Now
Josie’s experience inspired her to team up with charity Breast Cancer Now for their ‘Eyes Down, Check Up’ campaign.
She’s been busy educating the public about early warning signs of breast cancer and hopes to raise up to £1 million for the charity.
“We only ever talk about breast cancer when something bad happens. Let’s make it part of the conversation,” she said.
Life and Renovation Challenges
Josie has also been navigating the stress of her new property renovation.
Recently, she revealed she had moved back into a caravan due to sleepless nights and the pressure of building her dream home.
During a recent appearance on Good Morning Britain, she discussed her upcoming show, Josie Gibson’s Big Country Build, set to air later this year.
She humorously admitted, “Have I sat down and worked out the financials? No. No… and I am quite skint now, actually.”
Building a Dream Home
Her show follows Josie transforming her massive Somerset property into a modern, sustainable home.
She’s bringing in family members, including her brothers Josh and Charlie, as well as cousin Tom, to help with construction.
Josie is aiming for an eco-friendly lifestyle, growing her own produce and installing an underground heat pump for bees.
“My dream is to build a house as eco and luxurious as possible where you are immersed in the sanctuary of nature,” she explained. “I want bees, birds, badgers, to all live in harmony.”
Challenges Along the Way
Josie admits that turning her dream into reality hasn’t been easy.
She joked about the stress of working with family and animals, saying it’s tested her relationships: “They are great. They are amazing.
But there is a lot of challenges, let’s say.” Despite the hurdles, she’s excited to bring viewers along on her renovation journey.
Understanding Breast Cancer
Josie’s story also serves as an important reminder about breast cancer, one of the most common cancers worldwide.
In the UK, over 55,000 new cases are diagnosed each year, claiming 11,500 lives.
In the US, around 266,000 women are diagnosed annually, with 40,000 fatalities.
Breast cancer begins when a cell in the breast becomes abnormal, often in a duct or lobule, and multiplies uncontrollably.
Early detection is crucial, and symptoms can include painless lumps or changes in breast shape.
Diagnosis typically involves physical exams, mammography, and sometimes a biopsy.
Treatments vary from surgery and radiotherapy to chemotherapy and hormone therapy, often in combination.
The outlook is best when breast cancer is detected early. Routine screening helps catch tumors before they spread, significantly improving chances of successful treatment.
