When I think back to my children’s primary school years, I recall a resurgence of that peculiar theory popularised by David Icke – the one claiming that politicians and members of the Royal Family were secretly lizard people plotting world domination.
My kids, like many schoolchildren, were both terrified and fascinated.
One night, they even crept into our bedroom to check if their parents were secretly scaly beings.
Thankfully, all they found was normal human skin – much to their relief, and mild disappointment.
Fast forward to 2025, and the gap between fiction and reality feels narrower than ever.
While lizards ruling the world seemed absurd, the evidence emerging from the Epstein Files exposes a network of the rich and powerful indulging in far darker, very real debauchery.
Powerful Figures in a Shadowy World
Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cultivated a circle of influential guests, and the latest released photographs make it impossible to ignore their reach.
Names like Bill Clinton, Andrew, Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, Kevin Spacey, and Richard Branson appear, captured in private settings surrounded by pornographic art, sex toys, and disturbing memorabilia.
Some scenes are so surreal they could have been pulled straight from a David Lynch film – only darker and far more real.
The Surreal Nature of the Evidence
Images show Maxwell posing provocatively, scantily clothed, and in some cases nude, while other photos depict celebrities in compromising, sometimes absurd situations: cakes shaped like breasts, young women adorned with quotes from Lolita, or Epstein hosting girls dressed in cheerleader outfits.
Everywhere, cameras and paraphernalia suggest a culture of exploitation, with red flags that would be impossible to ignore.
Moral Compromise at the Top
The key question is simple: how could anyone present in these environments not sense that something deeply wrong was happening? For many of Epstein’s guests, the answer seems stark – either they wanted his money, or they were complicit in his depravity.
Andrew’s actions, from hosting Epstein at Sandringham to attending high-profile gatherings long after Epstein’s crimes were known, indicate a level of moral failure that cannot be brushed aside.
The Royal Fallout
It’s little wonder the King had to act decisively regarding his brother.
Andrew’s attempts to frame his relationship with Epstein as mere friendship appear increasingly untenable.
Even if he did not personally commit the acts of abuse alleged against him, the context – emails, invitations, and public interactions – paints him as morally reckless, if not outright exploitative.
Wealth, Power, and Depravity
This scandal underscores a broader truth about the powerful: status and privilege can shield questionable behaviour from scrutiny.
The files suggest that many of Epstein’s associates willingly immersed themselves in a world of exploitation, where young girls’ lives were commodified and ignored, highlighting the stark contrast between public persona and private actions.
A Personal Note on Christmas and Modern Life
Away from the dark revelations, the festive season brings its own absurdities.
The Royal Family’s Christmas cards, for instance, seem increasingly staged, with daffodils and floaty dresses rather than traditional tinsel and bells.
By contrast, Joan Collins’ card perfectly captures the holiday spirit, complete with baubles, artificial snow, and even a Santa baby.
Meanwhile, ordinary people struggle with practicalities like taxes, while politicians like David Lammy claim thousands from taxpayers for accountancy costs.
On a personal note, I’ve embraced pre-loved gifts this year, delighting in the mix of the ridiculous and the charming that arrives daily from eBay and Vinted – though I have learned, painfully, that age does make heavy lifting rather more hazardous.
What It All Means
From schoolyard lizard conspiracies to the shocking truths emerging from the Epstein Files, one thing is clear: power can corrupt in ways both surreal and profoundly disturbing.
While the festive season offers distractions and small joys, the shadow of moral compromise among the world’s elite lingers – a reminder that sometimes, reality is far stranger, and darker, than fiction.
