Former Orlando Pirates winger Mohau Nkota isn’t shy about sharing his thoughts on his old team’s tactics.

Now playing in Saudi Arabia with El Ettifaq, the 20-year-old attacker recently opened up about his former coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s approach during pre-season training with the Buccaneers.

Nkota Urges Coach to Shake Up the Midfield

In a chat on Metro FM’s Sports Night Amplified, Nkota suggested that Pirates need to be more flexible with their midfield lineup.

With just two games played this season—one win and one loss—he feels there’s room for fresh ideas.

“I think most of the time they play the ball at the back,” Nkota said.

“The coach should shuffle the midfield more. There’s plenty of players to choose from, especially with a big game coming up.”

He was referring to the upcoming clash against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 tournament, stressing the importance of using the squad depth to its full advantage.

“There’s quality not only on the bench but even up in the stands,” he added.

Nkota’s Impactful Pirates Career

Nkota had a memorable run with Orlando Pirates.

He helped them win the MTN8 in his debut season and played a key role in getting the team to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.

Over the 2024/25 season, he made 39 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and assisting five.

He also earned his first cap for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, earlier this year.
