Woman Gets Shocked as Canada Goose Crashes Through Her Glass Door in Quiet Leicestershire Neighborhood

Imagine settling down for a quiet evening, watching a football match, only to be startled by a loud crash that feels like someone is trying to break in.

That’s exactly what happened to Lynne Sewell in Countesthorpe, Leicestershire.

While enjoying Manchester City’s game against Brentford with her friend Ian Bullock, a terrifying bang echoed through her home.

At first, she feared it was human vandals—but the truth was far stranger.

The Goose That Broke In

When Lynne’s friend cautiously went to investigate, he discovered a Canada goose with its head smashed through the glass of the front door.

“I didn’t know if it was alive or dead,” Lynne recalled.

“I was so scared—the bang alone was enough to frighten me, and then seeing something that enormous wedged in the glass!”

The goose had somehow misjudged its landing, likely due to fatigue, and ended up causing chaos in a quiet neighborhood.

Caring for an Unexpected Guest

Despite the late hour and lack of immediate help, Lynne and Ian decided to make the best of the situation.

They gave the distressed bird some water, a small blanket, and even a few porridge oats while waiting overnight to see if it would survive the ordeal.

“I kept thinking about it all night, wondering what we’d find in the morning,” Lynne admitted.

Expert Rescue and Assessment

By the next day, Ian arranged for the Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital in Kibworth Harcourt to collect the goose.

Team Leader Amy Blower was amazed at the unusual circumstances.

“It’s very unusual to see a goose flying through a housing estate so late at night,” she said.

The bird had a few minor scrapes—a small cut on its beak and another along the side of its body—but was otherwise in surprisingly good shape.

After receiving pain relief and antibiotics, the goose is expected to be released back into the wild.

Life After the Unexpected Incident

As for Lynne, she’s already taken steps to prevent future surprises.

Her front door has been temporarily boarded up, and she plans to have it fully repaired through her insurance.

“I really don’t know how it survived going through that glass,” she said.

“It’s just not something you ever expect to happen!”
