Residents of Lewiston, Idaho, were startled on Saturday morning when a U-Haul truck suddenly exploded in a strip mall parking lot.
The blast occurred outside an Old Navy store, leaving the vehicle completely destroyed and its contents scattered across the pavement.
Police confirmed to the Daily Mail that one person died in the incident, though the victim’s identity has not yet been released.
Eyewitness Captures the Chaos
Local resident Becki Williams was one of the first to share images of the aftermath on X, posting around 11:55 a.m.
She expressed her disbelief, writing: “What could have caused that!? It was early, away from people and buildings, but it was felt and heard a long way from the scene. This is a tiny retirement town, what the heck!?”
In her video, firefighters and police officers could be seen navigating through the wreckage, trying to piece together exactly what had happened.
Authorities had already cordoned off the area with yellow caution tape to keep curious bystanders at a safe distance.
