In a political climate where pop culture and party lines often collide, former President Donald Trump has once again jumped into the fray—this time to throw his support behind actress Sydney Sweeney and take another jab at singer Taylor Swift.
The American Eagle Ad That’s Stirring Up Trouble
Sweeney recently starred in an American Eagle ad campaign that’s been labeled by critics as “racially charged.”
The ad, featuring the blonde-haired, blue-eyed 27-year-old, included the tagline “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans”—a line that some on the left blasted as having disturbing echoes of Nazi-style messaging.
Despite the backlash, Sweeney has found plenty of defenders on the right.
Conservative voices, including Trump himself, quickly rallied to her side once it came to light that she’s been a registered Republican since June 2024.
Trump Praises Sweeney and Her Jeans Ad
Posting on Truth Social Monday morning, Trump enthusiastically backed Sweeney, saying, “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the HOTTEST ad out there.
It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are flying off the shelves. Go get ’em Sydney!”
The former president framed the controversy as another case of the “woke mob” going too far, turning Sweeney into the latest symbol of conservative resistance to liberal outrage.
From Jaguar to Bud Light Trump Rants About Ads Gone “Woke”
Trump didn’t stop with American Eagle. He also brought up a recent Jaguar ad that featured androgynous models but no cars—something conservative critics mocked as “Bud Light 2.0.”
“Jaguar did a stupid, and seriously WOKE advertisement, THAT IS A TOTAL DISASTER!” Trump posted.
“The CEO just resigned in disgrace, and the company is in absolute turmoil.
Who wants to buy a Jaguar after looking at that disgraceful ad?”
He went on to remind followers of the fallout Bud Light faced after its own controversial campaign, claiming the beer brand was essentially “destroyed” by its attempt to embrace progressive messaging.
Taylor Swift Lands Back in Trump’s Crosshairs
After praising Sweeney, Trump then pivoted to one of his favorite celebrity targets—Taylor Swift.
The pop star, who endorsed President Biden in 2020 and Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024, got hit with another Trump tirade.
“Just look at woke singer Taylor Swift,” he wrote.
“Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!), she was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.”
Trump then declared, “The tide has seriously turned – Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.”
As always, he signed off with his signature, “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Trump Reacts to News of Sweeney’s GOP Registration
Interestingly, Trump wasn’t fully aware of Sweeney’s political leanings until a reporter from the Daily Mail brought it up to him directly on Sunday night at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Pennsylvania.
“She’s a registered Republican?” he asked, sounding surprised.
“You’d be surprised at how many people are Republican.
That’s one I wouldn’t have known, but I’m glad you told me that.”
Then he added, “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.”
Records Confirm Sweeney Registered as a Republican in Florida
According to voter records viewed by Daily Mail, Sweeney registered as a Republican in Monroe County, Florida, in June 2024.
BuzzFeed was the first outlet to break the news.
Although Sweeney and her team haven’t released a statement yet, that hasn’t stopped the right-wing media from turning her into a kind of anti-woke poster child overnight.
The Bigger Picture of Politics and Pop Culture
It’s clear Trump sees opportunities in every culture war skirmish.
Whether it’s defending a rising star like Sweeney or slamming an already polarizing figure like Swift, Trump is betting that Americans are growing tired of what he calls “woke” messaging.
As the 2024 election cycle heats up, expect more moments like this—where celebrity headlines and campaign trail rhetoric blur into one another.
