Fern Britton recently took a delightful trip down memory lane after an old clip of her interviewing a young Jude Law resurfaced online.
The TV presenter, 68, couldn’t resist joking that she “would have waited” for him if she had known he’d grow up to be so strikingly handsome.
Back in 1984, Jude was just 11 years old when he appeared on Breakfast Time to review half-term cinema releases.
Little did anyone know, this articulate young boy was destined to become one of Hollywood’s most celebrated leading men.
The Little Film Critic
During the segment, Fern encouraged Jude, telling him he would “make a good film reviewer.”
The young star-in-the-making shared his thoughts on One Hundred and One Dalmatians, which had been re-released in UK cinemas following its original 1961 debut.
Jude’s review was impressively insightful for his age. He explained that while the story was predictable, he still found it funny and engaging.
He particularly enjoyed how the animals called the humans their pets and found it fascinating that the story was told from the perspective of the male dog, Pongo.
Observant Beyond His Years
Fern, clearly amused, asked Jude about his sharp observation that the older dogs had different accents compared to the puppies.
Little Jude didn’t miss a beat, explaining that the American accent sounded slightly babyish.
It was a charming moment that showcased not just his wit but also a natural sophistication far beyond his years.
From Child Star to Global Icon
Although Jude appeared in several films during the 1990s, it wasn’t until his breakthrough role as Dickie Greenleaf in The Talented Mr Ripley at age 27 that he truly hit the big time.
The performance earned him an Oscar nomination and international acclaim.
Fans Marvel at Early Eloquence
The resurfaced clip quickly captivated fans, who couldn’t stop marveling at Jude’s eloquence as a child.
Many noted how impressive it was to see such intelligence, sophistication, and clarity in an 11-year-old, and some even compared his articulation to that of adults, highlighting that he had always shown signs of being destined for stardom.
Fern’s Playful Reflection
Under the Instagram post, Fern couldn’t resist a cheeky comment, reflecting on what she might have done differently had she known about Jude’s future success.
She wrote, “Blimey! The little rotter didn’t tell me he was going to be very famous and handsome. If he had, I’d have waited for him.”
It was a playful nod to the fact that even as a child, Jude had a spark that hinted at the incredible career that awaited him.
