Jadon Sancho’s future remains in limbo yet again, and this time, even his former club Borussia Dortmund seems hesitant to take him back.
After a tough year that saw him loaned out and still unwanted, the 25-year-old winger is now stuck between options—none of which seem certain.
Chelsea Gave Him a Shot, But Didn’t Bite
After his public fallout with Erik ten Hag, Manchester United shipped Sancho out on loan to Chelsea last season.
Under new boss Enzo Maresca, Sancho was given regular playing time, even helping the team lift the UEFA Conference League title.
But in the end, Chelsea chose not to make the move permanent, leaving Sancho out in the cold once more.
Dortmund Is Unsure About a Third Round
Now, with limited choices, Sancho is reportedly hoping for a third spell at Borussia Dortmund—the club where he once made his name.
He’s even willing to slash his hefty £14 million-a-year salary in half just to make the move happen. Still, it’s not that straightforward.
Reports from Sky Sports Germany suggest that Dortmund are hesitant to welcome him back.
The club is said to be debating whether bringing Sancho back—again—is really the right move, especially considering how both Chelsea and United have distanced themselves from him.
Reputation Concerns Cloud the Deal
Dortmund’s doubts aren’t just about form or finances—they’re also worried about perception.
Internally, there’s concern that repeatedly turning to former players like Sancho might appear unimaginative or even desperate.
It’s a fair worry, especially if things don’t pan out a third time.
United Set a Bargain Price—But Few Takers
Manchester United, for their part, are reportedly willing to let Sancho go for just €20 million (around £17.4 million).
That’s a huge markdown from the £73 million they paid Dortmund for him back in 2021.
Even with the price drop, there aren’t many clubs rushing in. Juventus had been mentioned as a possible destination, but that interest seems to have cooled recently.
Left Out of Pre-Season, But Not Totally Forgotten
When United headed to the USA for their pre-season tour last month, Sancho wasn’t on the flight.
He, along with three other players, was left behind—but that doesn’t mean they’re completely out of the picture.
Manager Ruben Amorim spoke on the situation, saying that those players still have a future at the club if no moves materialize:
“We are just allowing these players to have time to think and to decide… If they don’t reach a deal, they’re still Manchester United players. No doubt about that.”
Amorim Open to a Competitive Return
Amorim made it clear that if Sancho and the others don’t find new clubs, they’ll be welcomed back into the squad.
In fact, he sounded quite content with the idea of extra squad depth:
“If they have to fight each other to play, for me it’s perfect.
If you want to play in the World Cup next year, you need to play.”
What’s Next for Sancho?
For now, Jadon Sancho is caught in a frustrating holding pattern.
Dortmund might still be in the mix, but they’re not all-in. Juventus seem to be out.
And Manchester United are waiting for a buyer—while keeping the door half-open.
Whether Sancho stays, returns to Germany, or takes a completely new route, one thing’s clear: this summer is make-or-break for a career that once promised so much.
