The government of Osun State has stated its desire to empower more entrepreneurs through its monthly Food Support Scheme for the poor.

Prince Wole Oyebamiji, the Secretary to the State Government, revealed this at the flag-off ceremony for the 13th edition of the scheme in Osogbo.

The Food Support Scheme, according to Oyebamiji, has fed over one million mouths in various categories across the state and has employed a large number of entrepreneurs.

He said that the project had been a big success, especially in terms of bringing government closer to the people and answering their needs where they were.

“When Governor Oyetola said that he would maintain the project as long as he was in office, some ‘Doubting Thomases’ thought he wouldn’t be able to pull it off.

However, we are pleased to inform the general public that the 12th edition was held last month, and that the second year of feeding the masses of our people begins today.

“What warms our hearts is that we are receiving feedback from the beneficiaries, which demonstrates how far we have gone out to those who really need it.” In fact, we went so far as to go to the markets, in addition to the distribution pattern, to make sure it got to our folks.”

Olalekan Badmus, the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, said in his remarks that the government was dedicated to increase the number of entrepreneurs working for the government.

“So far so good, this plan has been a success,” Badmus added, expressing his joy at the Scheme’s effective implementation since its beginning. In the last year, we’ve been able to engage 50 entrepreneurs, and we’re hoping to double that number in the coming year.”

“At the moment, we have a number of businesses who have approached us to participate in the program for the manufacturing of various foods, particularly cassava flakes.”

When you see the number of people that want to collaborate, you’ll agree with me that this initiative has been a success. It is a program that is successful.

That is why, among other beneficial outcomes, the Borno State Government has duplicated a similar gesture as part of its social security intervention,” he added.

Last April, Governor Oyetola launched the Osun Food Support Scheme, a scheme aimed at eradicating hunger, poverty, and related vices as part of his government’s social security intervention, which aims to improve citizens’ welfare and overall well-being.
