Mamelodi Sundowns out of CAFCL with R10 million richer!

Mamelodi Sundowns may be out of the CAF Champions League but they will smile all the way to the bank after pocketing R10 million.

The Tshwane giants were ousted by Angolan side Petro de Luanda who beat them 3-2 on aggregate following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the FNB Stadium.

This was the quarter-finals, and for that reason, Sundowns will be rewarded with $650 000 which is just over R10 million.

Last season, Sundowns crashed out at the same stage of the CAF Champions League, and they walked away with the same prize money.

HOW MUCH HAVE MAMELODI SUNDOWNS MADE SO FAR THIS SEASON

With the R10 million guaranteed, Sundowns have now taken their total winnings for the current season to a whopping R24 million.

They won the MTN8 trophy which came with an R8 million prize money before claiming both Q1 and Q2 Innovations (R3 million each) for the DStv Premiership.

And that money – R10 million, R8 million, and R6 million amounts to R24 million but it certainly will be more when the season concludes.

That is because Sundowns are on the brink of winning the league title which carries a R15 million prize money, while they are in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup which rewards the ultimate winners with R7 million.
