Kaizer Chiefs: Baxter shares the problem with Amakhosi’s mindset

As The South African reported this week, Baxter is facing the worst pressure of his career after Amakhosi suffered a shock 1-0 loss to a young SuperSport United last weekend, and at the FNB Stadium.

“With our support, we should make this [FNB Stadium] a fortress,” Baxter said as quoted Kick Off.

The Brit added to say that Kaizer Chiefs’ issue is as deep as anxiety in the players’ mindsets, with the club’s jersey also too heavy.

“Our midset is not that at he moment, instead, our mindset is that of anxiety,” Baxter continued.

“I don’t know exactly why but I said earlier that the Chiefs shirt can weigh heavy. When the player thinks of themselves or fans think that they’re not up to the required standard.

“Is it a concern, absolutely, and we have to ask ourselves why is that and then that will be something to fix in the walls of our training ground,” the former SuperSport United and Bafana Bafana coach concluded.

BAXTER’S POSSIBILITIES THIS WEEK

With the shock 1-0 loss to SuperSport United on Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs marked only one victory in four matches. The club’s supporters have in fact been on Baxter’s back since the start of the season. The major complaint has been that Baxter ‘is too defensive.’

Losing games has only made it incredibly worse for the 68-year-old coach. As The South African reported on Sunday, the boiling point was reached as fans chanted ‘Baxter must go’ on Saturday evening.

Here are three possible outcomes for Baxter in the coming week:

1. Sacking

Kaizer Chiefs’ management pride themselves as one of the most patient clubs when it comes to sticking behind coaches when the chips are down. However, clubs, including Chiefs, sometimes have to manage supporters’ unrest by sacking a coach prematurely. Read Giovanni Solinas, Gavin Hunt, and Steve Komphela.
