Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town reacts to attacks on migrants world wide

Thabo Makgoba, the Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, used his Easter sermon to condemn attacks on migrants around the world.

Makgoba decried the aggression of some countries, such as Russia, which invaded Ukraine, while preaching at St George’s Cathedral.

Makgoba also stated that the world’s darkness is really genuine.

He reflected on people who are victims of domestic abuse and gender-based violence in the United States, as well as those who live in war-torn nations like Ukraine, and on the conflict in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.

Despite how tough it is to talk about, Makgoba believes that violence must be handled. In his sermon, he urged people not to remain silent in the face of injustices in the United States and around the world.

He also urged people to embrace rather than disregard others’s suffering and challenges.

A discourse on foreign nationals has been called for by the South African Council of Churches (SACC).

The SACC voiced grave worries in a statement that one incorrect word or deed by one or more people could lead to violence and death.

The national indaba, according to SACC Secretary-General Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana, should include all sectors, including foreign national representative organizations.
