It’s not often that a 21-year-old defender grabs the attention of top-tier clubs, both locally and abroad—but Khulumani Ndamane has done just that.
After a standout season with TS Galaxy, this young talent has become one of the most talked-about prospects in South African football.
And now, Mamelodi Sundowns are making serious moves to bring him in ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign.
From Kaizer Chiefs Reject to Galaxy’s Key Man
Ndamane’s journey hasn’t been straightforward.
After developing through the Kaizer Chiefs’ youth ranks and impressing in the DStv Diski Challenge, many expected him to make the leap to their senior squad.
But Chiefs opted not to promote him—a decision they might now regret.
He found a new home at TS Galaxy last year and wasted no time in making his mark.
In just one season, he racked up 27 starts and missed only six matches across all competitions—an incredible feat for someone in their first full professional campaign.
Making Waves on the International Stage
His rise didn’t stop at club level. Ndamane’s consistency and maturity earned him a call-up to Bafana Bafana, and he made his senior debut in a recent goalless draw against Tanzania at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Even national coach Hugo Broos is impressed.
“He has a massive future ahead,” Broos said.
“As a left-footed defender, he brings calmness, strength in the air, and a strong physical presence—all the tools to thrive at the top.”
Turning Down Europe While the Local Giants Circle
It’s not just local clubs taking notice.
Romanian side FCSB—where former Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana now plays—expressed interest in signing Ndamane on loan with an option to buy.
But that approach was reportedly declined.
Meanwhile, both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have kept a close eye on his progress.
Talks between Sundowns and TS Galaxy are underway, with the possibility of a loan-back clause, though sources suggest that’s becoming less likely.
Sundowns Eyeing Defensive Reinforcement
For Sundowns, this potential signing isn’t just about talent—it’s about filling a gap.
Their previous attempt to strengthen the left side of defence with Argentine Lucas Suarez didn’t go as planned, with Suarez ultimately returning to South America. Ndamane could be the long-term answer they’ve been looking for.
Another Big Name Exit for TS Galaxy?
TS Galaxy are already preparing for the possibility of losing yet another crucial figure.
Having recently seen Lebone Seema head to Orlando Pirates, the Rockets may be heading for a rebuild, especially after finishing a record fifth in the league last season.
Losing Ndamane could mark the start of a reshaping process—but also proves just how good their development system has been in recent years.
Will Sundowns Get Their Man?
So the big question now is whether Mamelodi Sundowns will seal the deal.
With the club aiming to stay at the top of South African football, adding a promising young defender like Ndamane could be a smart move for the long haul.
