Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez plan to marry in a Christian ceremony in Madeira next summer

Cristiano Ronaldo and his fiancée Georgina Rodriguez are reportedly planning to get married next summer in a Christian ceremony on Ronaldo’s home island of Madeira.

Sources say the couple will exchange vows at Funchal Cathedral, with a reception to follow at a high-end hotel nearby, according to Jornal da Madeira.

A Wedding Close to His Roots

The chosen locations carry special meaning for Ronaldo.

The cathedral is just 1.5 miles from the hospital where he was born and about three miles from Nacional da Madeira, one of the local clubs he played for during his youth.

For the football superstar, it’s a wedding location that connects his past to this new chapter of life.

A Love Story Spanning More Than Nine Years

The couple revealed their engagement back in August after being together for over nine years.

Ronaldo, now 40, recently reflected on how he popped the question—describing it as spontaneous and “not very romantic,” even though it involved a £1.5million ring.

The Proposal That Happened at 1 AM

Speaking to Piers Morgan, Ronaldo shared the story of the late-night proposal.

“It was like 1am. My daughters were asleep,” he said.

A friend handed him the engagement ring, and as he offered it to Georgina, his daughters unexpectedly interrupted.

“Daddy, you’re going to give the ring to mum and you’re going to ask her to get married,” they said.

Ronaldo admitted it wasn’t planned, but it felt like the perfect moment.

“I knew I was going to do it one day but I hadn’t planned to do it then,” he explained.

Despite not getting on one knee, he made a small speech and described it as a beautiful, heartfelt moment.

A Different Kind of Romance

“I’m not very romantic in the usual way,” Ronaldo admitted. “I don’t bring flowers every week.

But I’m romantic in my own way. It was beautiful, and I knew she was the woman of my life.”

Family Life and Tragic Loss

Ronaldo and Georgina share two children, Alana Martin and Bella Esmeralda.

Ronaldo also has three other children: Cristiano Jr, born in 2010 before his relationship with Georgina, and twins Eva and Mateo, born via surrogacy in 2017.

The couple suffered heartbreak in 2022 with the loss of their newborn son, Angel.

Together Since 2016

The Portugal football legend and the Argentine-Spanish model are thought to have started dating in 2016 while Ronaldo was at Real Madrid.

Despite their public lives, the couple prefers to keep personal moments private.

Ronaldo told Piers Morgan that Georgina “doesn’t like big parties” and wants their wedding to be intimate.

Heartfelt Reflections on Love and Loss

Ronaldo shared how the couple navigated the painful loss of their baby, saying it strengthened their bond. “We always support each other.

Sometimes relationships have good moments, bad moments—it’s part of the journey.

But probably in that period, we consolidated our relationship more,” he said.

He added, “My daughter, now three, is the queen of the family who makes the house happy.

Everything happens for a reason. We are a blessed family, and I’m proud of that.”

Looking Forward to the Future

Ronaldo joked about celebrating after the 2026 World Cup, saying, “We plan to do it after the World Cup with the trophy!” With their wedding set in a meaningful location and surrounded by family, it looks set to be a memorable celebration of love, resilience, and family.
