Jack Osbourne opened up about his late father Ozzy on Wednesday night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, sharing stories that reminded everyone just how chaotic the Prince of Darkness’ career really was.
Ozzy, who passed away in July at 76, was notorious for his outrageous stunts and larger-than-life antics throughout his legendary music career.
The Infamous Dove Incident
Jack recounted one particularly shocking moment from 1981 when Ozzy bit the head off a dove to promote a new album. Sitting with the campmates, he said:
“In like a three-year period, he got fired, did his own solo thing, released two albums, bit the head off a dove, bit the head off a bat, pi**ed on the Alamo… and somehow had two top ten albums. It was a wild time.”
The story behind the dove was that the record label refused to support the album.
Sharon Osbourne arranged a meet-and-greet with CBS executives, and Ozzy, who had been drinking all morning, turned a symbolic gesture into chaos by biting the dove’s head off right on the executive’s lap. According to Jack:
“He grabs the dove, bites its head off, and spits it on her.
Pandemonium broke out, and before they even got to the hotel, the album had already charted.”
The Bat Incident That Shook Metal History
Not long after, Ozzy cemented his shock-rock reputation by biting the head off a bat live on stage in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1982.
A fan threw the bat at him, and without hesitation, Ozzy lunged and bit it, an incident that has since become one of rock’s most infamous moments.
Growing Up Under Ozzy’s Shadow
Jack also reflected on his own life growing up in the Osbourne household, revealing the struggles he faced with substance abuse. He admitted he went to rehab at just 17:
“I was doing a lot of pills, a lot of alcohol, a lot of weed.
You give a 16-year-old a ton of money and not a lot of rules in LA… I got lost in it.”
He emphasized that after attending an adolescent treatment center in California, he has never relapsed, noting that sobriety has been a continual process of learning and self-discipline.
Life Behind the Reality TV Cameras
The conversation also touched on The Osbournes, the reality TV show that captured his family’s chaotic life.
Jack admitted it was strange being under the constant public gaze:
“It was not a lot of structure and too much freedom.
You’re kind of just like, ‘let’s go play.’”
Despite the fame and tumult, he said maintaining sobriety and learning from past mistakes has helped him find stability in his adult life.
Jack Honors His Father’s Legacy
Beyond the shock stories, Jack’s reflections revealed a deep admiration for Ozzy’s resilience and creativity.
From biting animals to topping charts amidst chaos, Ozzy’s life was full of contradictions—chaotic yet brilliant.
For Jack, sharing these stories in the Jungle is both a tribute and a reminder of the lessons learned from a wild upbringing and the importance of personal growth.
