Seattle Mariners use Cal Raleigh’s Big Dumper nickname to mock Coldplay concert scandal involving tech CEO in Massachusetts

Even with Major League Baseball taking a breather for the All-Star break, the Seattle Mariners’ social media team decided to swing for the fences — and boy, did they connect.

While most teams were laying low, Seattle delivered a cheeky viral moment that had baseball fans (and social media users in general) laughing out loud.

A Tech CEO Scandal Meets Baseball Banter

It all started with a headline-grabbing moment at a Coldplay concert in Massachusetts, where a tech CEO was caught on the “Kiss Cam” snuggling up to someone who wasn’t his wife — allegedly his company’s HR chief.

That awkward public outing was caught on video and quickly went viral, with the internet doing what it does best: making memes.

Naturally, the Mariners couldn’t resist jumping into the mix.

Meet Big Dumper, Relationship Guru?

The team posted a photo of their All-Star catcher, Cal Raleigh — better known to fans as Big Dumper — with a caption that read:
“If your significant other was recently spotted at a Coldplay concert, email BigDumper@Mariners.com.”

Beneath Raleigh’s face was another hilarious line:
“Need the Big Dumper to do some dumpin’?”

This wasn’t just a random meme. The image was actually pulled from a video bit shown at T-Mobile Park earlier in the season, where Raleigh played the role of a breakup messenger.

In the skit, he gently breaks the bad news to a fictional heartbroken fan named Tom:

“Tom, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but it’s not working with Lindsay.

Don’t worry though—when one door closes, another one opens.

Specifically, a door to a new apartment, because your current lease is in Lindsay’s name. Bummer.”

The Nickname That Stuck — and Sold Out

For those unfamiliar, Cal Raleigh didn’t come up with the nickname Big Dumper himself.

It started as a joke about his notably large backside, but over time, both fans and teammates embraced it. And now? So has Raleigh — kind of.

In fact, thanks to his explosive performance this season — with 38 home runs before the All-Star break — fans are buying up Big Dumper t-shirts and jerseys like hotcakes.

Some are even speculating whether he might challenge Barry Bonds’ single-season home run record of 73.

If Raleigh can hit 33 more bombs in the final 66 games, he’d tie the legendary mark.

Other Teams Join the Coldplay Chaos

The Mariners weren’t alone in poking fun at the viral Coldplay drama.

The St. Louis Cardinals also got in on the action, posting a throwback photo of Albert Pujols hugging longtime teammate Adam Wainwright with the caption:
“When Coldplay starts playing your song.”

Meanwhile, even Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin couldn’t resist commenting on the now-infamous concert clip.

Spotting the couple’s horrified reaction as their faces lit up the stadium screen, Martin playfully told the crowd:
“Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”

Baseball, Memes, and Big Dumper Energy

So even with no games being played, MLB’s social media scene is very much alive — and Cal Raleigh’s Big Dumper persona is right in the thick of it.

Whether or not he dumps Barry Bonds’ record remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: the Mariners’ Twitter/X game is as strong as their catcher’s swing.

Let me know if you’d like a headline list or social media captions for this one!
