New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is fighting for his life after being shot in Midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.
The 29-year-old was reportedly targeted in a shooting incident on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue at around 2 a.m., according to the NYPD.
Victim Rushed to Bellevue Hospital
Boyd was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, the nation’s oldest public hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
While police have not officially named the victim, multiple sources, including The New York Post, have confirmed it is the Jets star.
Shooting Follows Verbal Dispute
Eyewitnesses told CBS New York that the shooting erupted after a verbal argument escalated. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the NYPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Boyd’s NFL Journey
Boyd is in his first season with the Jets, having signed with the team in free agency this past March.
Prior to New York, he spent two seasons with the Houston Texans and also had a stint with the Arizona Cardinals after being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019.
Notable On-Field Controversy
The cornerback made headlines earlier this year during the Texans’ Divisional Round playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Boyd was caught on camera ripping off his helmet and storming to the sidelines, nearly colliding with the special teams coach, Ross.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, with many fans calling for him to be cut.
Boyd later revealed that he received a barrage of racist messages on social media in the aftermath, describing the abuse as relentless.
Jets Off Day Following Patriots Game
The Jets were not scheduled to play on Sunday after facing the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
Fans and teammates alike have expressed shock and concern for Boyd’s well-being.
More details are expected as the NYPD continues its investigation into the Midtown shooting.f
