Alan Carr has finally spoken out about the speculation linking him to the next hosting role on Strictly Come Dancing.
The comedian, 49, has become a frontrunner since Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced last month that they would step down after this year’s Christmas special.
Tess and Claudia Make Historic Exit
Fans were stunned when Tess, 56, and Claudia, 53, revealed their decision to leave the BBC show.
The duo made history as the channel’s first female presenting pair, and after 21 joyful years, they decided it was time to pass the baton.
Claudia explained, “There have been some rumblings and we want you to hear this from us.”
Tess added, “After 21 wonderfully joyful years on Strictly, we have decided that the time is right to step aside and pass over the baton.”
Their final appearance together will be on the Christmas Special airing December 25.
Alan Carr Honoured to Be Considered
Alan, fresh off his win on Celebrity Traitors, said he feels honoured to be linked with the role.
“My name is in the hat. What an honour,” he told The Mirror.
“It’s a bit like when my name got bandied about for Britain’s Got Talent and Great British Bake Off – I’m always on the periphery.”
Despite the buzz, Alan revealed that no formal approach has been made about the hosting job. “People are so passionate about it,” he said.
“You saw me sweating in the castle when I was a Traitor – imagine me doing live telly with how many million people watching.
So many things have come from The Celebrity Traitors – so many job offers coming in – I’d be flattered, but I don’t know if I could do it justice. I just don’t want to ruin it for people.”
Previous Near-Misses
Alan previously missed out on a spot as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent after David Walliams stepped down in 2022.
He was reportedly “devastated” when Simon Cowell overruled ITV bosses and chose Bruno Tonioli instead.
Other Potential Hosts in the Mix
With Tess and Claudia stepping down, bookmakers and fans are already speculating about potential replacements.
Names being floated include Zoe Ball, Holly Willoughby, Stacey Dooley, Kevin Clifton, Roman Kemp, former Strictly pro Janette Manara, and ex-contestant Alex Scott.
Zoe Ball is currently the 2-1 favourite to take over, thanks to her experience on the spin-off show It Takes Two and her familiarity with the format.
Fans Can See More of Alan Soon
Meanwhile, Alan fans won’t have to wait long to see him on screen again.
The third series of his semi-autobiographical comedy, Changing Ends, will premiere on Sunday 23 November, airing straight after I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here on ITV1, STV, and ITVX.
The show, starring Oliver Savell as a young Alan, has already aired two successful series. IMDB describes it as “an autobiographical scripted comedy based on stand-up and presenter Alan Carr’s life.”
