What started as a fresh chapter in Turkey has come to an early end for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder, who joined Turkish side Besiktas just last year, has now parted ways with the club—well before his contract was due to expire.
A Brief but Eventful Spell at Besiktas
Oxlade-Chamberlain signed for Besiktas in 2023, making 50 appearances and scoring five goals.
He even managed to pick up silverware, helping the club win both the Turkish Cup and the Turkish Super Cup.
But despite featuring regularly last season, it seems he wasn’t in the long-term plans of newly appointed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Injuries Still a Factor in His Career
In typical Oxlade-Chamberlain fashion, injuries again played a part in disrupting his season.
Although he managed to bounce back and contribute on the pitch, his future with the squad was still in question.
With his contract initially set to run through summer 2026, the club decided to cut ties now instead of waiting.
A Career Filled with Highs – and Frustrations
Once hailed as one of England’s brightest young midfield talents, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career has had both dazzling highs and painful setbacks.
Between 2012 and 2019, he earned 35 England caps, scoring seven international goals.
His club career saw him rise through the ranks at Southampton, before making a big move to Arsenal in 2011.
He played nearly 200 games for the Gunners, winning three FA Cups and becoming a familiar figure in their midfield.
In 2017, he made the switch to Liverpool, where his trophy cabinet grew significantly.
With the Reds, he picked up a Champions League title, Premier League title, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup—a haul most players dream of.
What’s Next for the 31-Year-Old?
Now at 31, Oxlade-Chamberlain is once again a free agent, looking for a new challenge.
There have been whispers about a possible return to English football, though nothing has been confirmed.
His experience and versatility still make him an attractive option for clubs seeking midfield depth.
Whether he makes a Premier League comeback or chooses another overseas venture, one thing’s for sure—there’s still more football in him, if he can stay fit.
