Shoppers fear for their safety after woman is stabbed at bus stop in Birmingham city centre

A sense of fear has gripped Birmingham city centre after a woman was violently attacked while waiting at a bus stop.

The shocking incident has left the community questioning safety in public spaces.

Woman Seriously Injured in Unprovoked Attack

The victim, a woman in her 30s, was stabbed in the neck in what police are calling an unprovoked attack. She was rushed to hospital and remains in critical condition.

Authorities confirmed that a man in his 20s was arrested near the scene and is now in police custody.

Witnesses described the attack as sudden and random.

One person said the assailant ran up to the woman without warning and stabbed her as she waited for the bus, sending nearby shoppers into a state of panic.

Recent Spike in City Centre Stabbings

This is the third reported stabbing in Birmingham city centre in just over a month.

Earlier incidents include two 17-year-old boys being knifed outside a Primark store within a single week in early October, heightening public concern.

Shoppers like 20-year-old Tom Jarvis, who was in the area for Christmas shopping, expressed disbelief. “There was another stabbing near here not long ago.

I was in town that day too. It’s really bad. Not good at all,” he said.

Daniel Webb, 34, described the attack as “really, really disturbing,” adding, “Things like this should just never happen. I don’t understand it and never will.”

Eyewitness Accounts Paint a Chaotic Scene

Another bystander shared that his friend witnessed the attack firsthand.

He recounted people screaming and running from the scene in terror, capturing the chaotic atmosphere that unfolded near Birmingham New Street station around 9pm.

Social media reactions have mirrored these fears, with locals expressing that they no longer feel safe in the city centre.

One Facebook user commented, “It really is like the Wild West in the Midlands.

We live in constant fear of letting our own children go out these days.”

Another added, “I hate going out. It is so scary now.”

Police Investigate and Provide Reassurance

West Midlands Police have said they are actively investigating the circumstances of the attack.

Detective Inspector James Nix stated, “We believe this was an unprovoked attack and are working to understand why it happened.

Officers will remain in the area to continue our investigation and provide reassurance.

We are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”

Photos from the scene show a large blue forensic tent and a police cordon, closing off the area as investigators gather evidence.

A police spokesperson added: “We were called to Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9pm after reports of a stabbing.

A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital with a serious neck injury and remains in critical condition.

A man in his 20s was arrested close to the scene and is currently in custody.
