Africa’s economic future lies in the hands of young researchers who understand the continent’s unique challenges and opportunities.
To support this new wave of thinkers, the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) has opened applications for the 2026 Young Leaders in Research (YLR) Grant — a one-year research funding program designed to elevate early-career African scholars shaping the continent’s transformation agenda.
A Launchpad for Emerging African Researchers
The YLR Grant isn’t just about financial aid. It’s a full-fledged empowerment initiative offering mentorship, visibility, and professional growth for young economists and policy researchers.
Over the course of 12 months, selected participants will have the tools and guidance they need to conduct impactful studies that address Africa’s most pressing development priorities — from governance and industrialization to sustainable finance and digital growth.
Why This Grant Matters
Africa’s path to sustainable growth depends on policies grounded in solid research and local context.
That’s where the YLR Grant comes in — nurturing homegrown expertise to drive change from within.
This program aims to cultivate the next generation of African problem-solvers and policy innovators who can influence national and regional strategies for inclusive development.
