It’s not every day you see a golf match turn into a full-on brawl—and definitely not one that ends with a man being tossed into a lake.
But that’s exactly what happened at Alberta Springs Golf Resort, and now the guy who got dunked has finally spoken up.
Trevor Ogilvie, the Canadian man who got into it with former NHL enforcer Nick Tarnasky, has taken to social media to own the moment and set the record straight—with a bit of humor, humility, and a black eye to show for it.
“That’s Me in the Pond”: Ogilvie Breaks the Ice
“Yup, that’s me, guys—the guy who got dropped like a bucket of balls in a pond,” Ogilvie says in a self-recorded video posted online.
The clip quickly racked up views as people recognized him from the now-viral footage of the lakeside scuffle.
The fight had started when Tarnasky, reportedly frustrated with Ogilvie’s slow group refusing to let him play through, lost his temper.
What followed was a one-sided exchange: Tarnasky punched Ogilvie multiple times and flung him straight into the water.
One Punch, Two Punch, and a Return to the Lake
Surprisingly, Ogilvie didn’t back down. He climbed out of the water, still fired up, and challenged Tarnasky again.
That just led to more blows and another toss toward the lake.
It was a chaotic scene, one that probably looked more like hockey than golf.
“Not my finest moment,” Ogilvie admits in his post. “I know it looks bad.
Played 36 holes of golf, drank way too much, and my mouth was moving faster than my brain.”
A Public Apology—and a Bit of Humor
In between laughs at his own expense, Ogilvie took time to apologize.
“All jokes aside, I’d like to say sorry to everyone on the course, anyone caught up in it, and anyone who had to deal with me that day. I lost my cool. I learned from it.”
He ended the post with some light-hearted advice for fellow golfers: “Stay hydrated, keep your stick on the ice, and maybe just stick to 18 holes next time.”
Black Eye and a Laugh, But No Charges
Despite the dramatic scene, Ogilvie walked away with just a minor injury.
“Just a tiny lil black eye that’s it, that’s all boys,” he posted on Reddit, brushing off the physical damage.
As for Tarnasky, the 40-year-old coach and former NHL player seems unlikely to face any consequences—at least for now.
Authorities confirmed that no official assault complaint was filed.
Police and Team Reactions Remain Neutral
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed that the report they received was about an intoxicated individual and a fight.
“Nobody came forward to us alleging an assault,” said Corporal Troy Savinkoff.
The case, as far as police are concerned, is closed.
Tarnasky’s current organization, Red Deer Minor Hockey—where he coaches under-17 players—has stated they’re aware of the video and are conducting their own internal investigation.
A Look Back at Tarnasky’s Rough-and-Tumble Career
For those who don’t recognize the name, Nick Tarnasky is no stranger to throwing punches.
Drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning back in 2003, the 6-foot-2 forward played for teams like the Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, logging nearly 300 penalty minutes over 245 NHL games.
He spent even more time in the AHL, where he built a reputation as a hard-nosed player with 881 penalty minutes and a physical style that clearly hasn’t faded—at least not on the golf course.
No Penalties, Just Public Scrutiny
So far, the fallout has been more viral than legal. The story has blown up across social media, with many laughing off the incident while others question the behavior of a coach involved in youth sports.
For Ogilvie, it’s a lesson learned. For Tarnasky, it’s unwanted attention.
And for the rest of us, it’s a reminder that even on a peaceful golf course, tempers—and former enforcers—can flare.
