While Shauwn Mkhize — famously known as MaMkhize — has been making headlines for everything from flashy fashion to football drama, her ex-husband, Sbu Mpisane, has quietly disappeared from public view.
Once known for his flashy lifestyle and controversial wealth, Sbu is now living a much more low-key life, with a surprising new focus: politics.
A Divorce That Took Years to Finalize
Although MaMkhize and Sbu Mpisane announced their separation back in 2019, their divorce only became official last year.
Their split was the end of a once high-profile marriage that captured media attention for both glamour and scandal.
Speaking to Sunday World, Sbu made it clear he didn’t walk away from the relationship penniless or defeated.
“I’ve been surviving since the start of the divorce,” he said.
“The final settlement followed the law and our constitution.”
He added that their court documents clearly stated the marriage was beyond saving — and that MaMkhize was the one who initiated the process.
Assets Divided, Debts Kept Separate
According to Sbu’s legal team, the couple agreed to split all their marital assets equally.
Neither one was required to cover the other’s debts — something both parties reportedly accepted.
So, despite public assumptions that Sbu may have been left in the cold, he insists he’s doing just fine and moving on with his life.
From Police Officer to Business Mogul
Sbu Mpisane’s rise to public attention began long before his marriage made headlines.
He started out as a Metro police officer in Durban, working in the dog unit.
But it wasn’t his work that got people talking — it was his lifestyle.
While reportedly earning less than R20,000 a month, Sbu turned heads by driving a Lamborghini to work and living in a R15.5 million mansion.
The extravagant spending raised eyebrows, but he and MaMkhize credited their fortune to successful government tenders and business ventures under their company, Zikhulise Group.
Zikhulise covered several sectors, including construction, transport, cleaning, and property maintenance — and their wealth grew quickly.
Drama Over Football and Family
Following their separation, things got messy — especially when it came to ownership of their soccer team.
Originally known as Royal Eagles, the club became Real Kings, then eventually Royal AM.
But internal disputes, especially between Sbu and their son, Andile, made headlines.
Andile even took to Instagram in 2019 to air out personal frustrations, accusing his father of making false claims and stirring drama around the football club.
Since then, Royal AM was expelled from the Premier Soccer League, and family tensions appeared to remain unresolved in the public eye.
Sbu’s New Chapter in Politics
While MaMkhize has stayed firmly in the spotlight, appearing at red carpet events and on reality TV, Sbu has shifted his focus to politics.
In 2023, he announced that he had become the chairperson of a new political party, Gap Fixers of South Africa.
His party’s mission is to address and “fix” racial inequality across the country.
Though still living in the La Lucia home he once shared with MaMkhize, he’s been quietly building his political platform away from the glam and cameras.
Were Their Parting Words Friendly or Frosty?
Given the calm public tone from Sbu and the lack of direct comments from MaMkhize, it’s hard to say definitively whether the two ended things on good or bad terms.
But their post-divorce lives have clearly gone in very different directions — one rooted in public visibility, and the other in quiet reinvention.
