Nigerian teenagers flocked to the streets in large numbers in 2020 to peacefully protest police brutality for weeks.
The #EndSARS rally, however, was hijacked by thugs, resulting in the deaths of several people and damage to both private and government property.
As of October 2021, the NIA chairman stated, insurance companies had paid out about N9 billion in claims for roughly N20 billion in anticipated losses incurred during the protests.
Between October 2021 and January 2022, an extra N2 billion was paid, he said.
“As of January, insurers have paid over N11 billion as claims that arose from the #EndSARS protests of 2020,” Musa said.
According to the NIA, about 2000 businesses were affected during the protests across the country.
Musa assured that the NIA will continue to emphasise the need for insurance companies to pay all genuine insurance claims and will not hesitate to sanction erring member companies.
