In a move that signals big ambitions for its next phase of growth, Theta Capital Management, a prominent blockchain venture capital firm based in Amsterdam, has just brought two seasoned professionals on board.

These appointments hint at a sharpened focus on operational excellence and regulatory strength—two things that matter more than ever in today’s fast-evolving digital asset space.

Welcoming Gijs Burgers as Chief Operating Officer

Joining the team as Chief Operating Officer is Gijs Burgers, a name well-known in fintech and crypto circles.

His most recent role was as COO at Hilbert Group AB, a Nasdaq-listed digital asset hedge fund.

But his journey into digital finance goes back much further.

Since 2012, Burgers has been actively engaged in the crypto and digital asset space, wearing many hats along the way—entrepreneur, strategist, and advisor.

His past roles include serving as a Corporate Strategist at APG, one of the world’s largest pension funds.

He also co-founded Onramper.com, a platform that simplifies global crypto payments by aggregating onramp and offramp solutions.

Strengthening the Framework with Eduard van Asten

On the compliance and risk side, Eduard van Asten has stepped in as Head of Compliance and Risk.

Van Asten brings with him a solid track record in regulatory oversight within the financial technology space.

Before joining Theta, he was Head of Compliance and Risk at Zing NL, an HSBC-backed project focused on creating a global digital payments app.

His expertise also includes working as a Global Senior Compliance Expert at ING Group and serving in senior risk roles for Vivid Money and the Pensify Group.

Clearly, he’s no stranger to navigating complex compliance landscapes.

About Theta Capital Management

Founded back in 2001, Theta Capital Management has been ahead of the curve in blockchain investments.

Since January 2018, the firm has made strategic moves in the space, guided by Managing Partner Marc de Kloe.

The firm collaborates with over 45 specialized venture capital partners, a network that has already led to more than 1,000 investments in blockchain and related technologies.

With this powerful ecosystem and its newest leadership additions, Theta seems poised for even more impactful moves.

What’s Next for Theta?

With the combined brainpower of Gijs Burgers and Eduard van Asten, Theta Capital is clearly tightening its grip on operations and risk management.

This likely means even more strategic investments and a stronger presence in the global blockchain space.

As the digital asset industry matures, Theta’s ability to balance innovation with governance could give it a serious edge.

The question now is—what bold move will they make next?
