Even beyond the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, Diane Keaton quietly made a monumental difference in the lives of those in need.
The late star, who passed away at 79, was remembered by Evan J. Fox, the owner of Los Angeles-based food truck company Yeastie Boys Bagel, for her heartfelt dedication to helping the unhoused and survivors of domestic violence.
Fox, who worked with Keaton on charitable initiatives, revealed how the actress personally rolled up her sleeves to feed those less fortunate at events benefiting The People Concern, a nonprofit supporting vulnerable communities in Los Angeles.
Hands-On Generosity
“She was there herself, helping serve food, taking photos with us, and engaging with everyone,” Fox shared with The Daily Mail.
“On all my calls with her, Diane was so sweet, gracious, and genuinely grateful, but in truth, she spearheaded everything. I just supported her efforts.”
Their partnership began on the set of Keaton’s 2022 comedy Mack and Rita, where Yeastie Boys catered for the production.
Fox fondly recalls how Keaton made the crew feel included and valued, despite her A-list status.
Personal Touches That Left a Mark
Fox also shared a voicemail Keaton left him, which he described as his favorite.
“She sang a snippet of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and said, ‘I just want to say you’re my hero.
It’s so special what you’ve done with your team.’ It gave me goosebumps,” he recalled.
Even amidst her fame, Keaton had a down-to-earth approach that made Fox feel like family.
“She never made me feel starstruck; it was like I’d known her forever,” he said. “She was the kindest, sweetest woman, and I will miss her dearly.”
A Lasting Tribute in Bagel Form
In honor of her generosity, Yeastie Boys created “The Diane Bagel,” an off-menu item inspired by the star. Due to overwhelming demand, Fox is considering making it a permanent feature. “She will live in our hearts forever,” he said.
Dedication During Difficult Times
Even at the height of the pandemic, when many avoided in-person contact, Keaton continued supporting charitable efforts.
She shared videos of donating clothing to The People Concern, captioning them: “IT’S FOR A GOOD CAUSE!!!”
Her advocacy extended to attending galas, such as the nonprofit’s Celebrating Change event, where she posed with CEO John Maceri.
Fox described their collaboration as a defining part of Yeastie Boys’ journey.
A Life of Private Strength
Keaton’s passing was confirmed by a family spokesperson, who noted it was sudden and heartbreaking.
A close friend shared that in her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, keeping her final moments private.
Though she never married, Keaton adopted two children in her 50s, daughter Dexter and son Duke, leaving behind a legacy of love both on-screen and off.
Remembering Diane Keaton
Fox’s tribute encapsulates the actress’s spirit: “Rest in power to the sweetest, kindest, and coolest customer Yeastie Boys ever had.
Diane touched so many lives and will always be a part of our story.”
