As the transfer window heats up, Orlando Pirates aren’t wasting any time.
The Soweto giants are actively strengthening their squad, and their latest interest comes from West Africa — a young, dynamic midfielder who could add real punch to their engine room.
Malian Midfield Starlet on Pirates’ Radar
At just 23 years old, Abdoulaye Mariko has already caught the attention of scouts in South Africa.
The talented central midfielder from Mali’s Djoliba AC has impressed in continental competitions, including seven appearances in the last CAF Champions League campaign.
That kind of experience at such a young age makes him a tempting option for the Buccaneers, who are looking to sharpen their central midfield ahead of the new season.
According to reports from UnplayableZA, Pirates are seriously considering bringing Mariko on board for the upcoming campaign.
His composure, creativity, and CAF pedigree could make him a valuable asset in Mayfair.
Pirates Continue Winter Recruitment Spree
Mariko might not be the only new face in town.
The Sea Robbers are reportedly preparing for a wave of new arrivals during this transfer window.
A long list of names — Kabelo Kgositsile, Masindi Nemtajela, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Tshepo Mashiloane, Sihle Nduli, Tsepang Moremi, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, Yanela Mbuthuma, and Sipho Mbule — are all expected to land at the club soon.
Of those, Sipho Mbule has already been officially unveiled, while Tshepang Moremi, the speedy AmaZulu winger, seems to be on the verge of putting pen to paper.
Is Moremi the Next Segolela?
Moremi’s potential move has sparked comparisons to former Pirates speedster Tlou Segolela, whose blistering pace and flair on the wing made him a fan favorite.
If Moremi can replicate even half of Segolela’s impact, the Pirates faithful could be in for a treat next season.
Mofokeng: South Africa’s Brightest Young Star?
Another name that continues to shine brightly at Orlando Pirates is Relebohile Mofokeng. The 19-year-old winger had an extraordinary 2024–2025 season, clocking 49 appearances across all competitions and racking up an incredible 12 goals and 15 assists.
Mofokeng’s consistency and creativity have drawn attention from big clubs abroad, and he might not be wearing a Pirates jersey for much longer.
But until then, he remains a key weapon in the club’s attack.
Don’t Sleep on Monnapule Saleng
While much of the focus has been on Mofokeng, let’s not forget about Monnapule Saleng.
Once hailed as the club’s main man, his form has dipped under the radar — but his quality is still there.
With the right system and support, he could easily bounce back and make a strong case for a starring role again.
Can Pirates Mount a Title Challenge?
With all these new signings and stars hitting their stride, could Orlando Pirates be genuine title contenders in the Betway Premiership next season? The squad depth is growing, the talent is evident, and if everything clicks, the Buccaneers might just go all the way.
