Laurence Fox announces surprise marriage to podcaster Elizabeth Barker after low-key registry office ceremony in the UK

In true Laurence Fox fashion, the actor-turned-political firebrand didn’t go for a grand public affair when it came to tying the knot again.

Instead, he and his new wife, podcaster Elizabeth Barker, kept things low-key—at least for now.

Fox, 47, announced the news on social media with a simple post and a few family-filled snapshots from a registry office ceremony.

A Registry Office Wedding With a Bigger Ceremony to Follow

Sharing the update on X (formerly Twitter), Fox told his 617,000 followers that he and Barker had officially signed the papers.

His reason for skipping a church service? He didn’t mince words.

“In order to avoid having to encounter anyone from the @churchofengland myself and my beautiful wife @CaliforniaFrizz signed a piece of paper in a registry office today,” he wrote.

But the low-key legal bit wasn’t the full celebration.

Fox added that a “proper wedding” with close friends and family “in the eyes of God” is still on the cards in the coming days.

A Whirlwind Year Since Engagement

Fox and Barker have kept much of their relationship private, but the actor first shared their engagement back in June 2024.

Posting a photo of Barker flashing her engagement ring, Fox playfully told his followers he was “punching.”

He later confirmed the engagement to MailOnline, saying, “Yes, congratulations are due.

It was a few weeks ago,” but declined to elaborate, noting he wanted to keep things “quiet and personal.”

Their engagement came not long after Fox split from his previous fiancée, Arabella Fleetwood Neagle, just weeks before they were due to marry in mid-2023.

A Look Back at His Marriage to Billie Piper

Fox’s most high-profile relationship remains his eight-year marriage to singer and actress Billie Piper.

The pair met in 2006 while co-starring in the stage production Treats, got married a year later, and went on to have two sons—Winston and Eugene—before divorcing in 2016.

Who Is Elizabeth Barker?

So, who’s the woman who’s now officially Mrs. Fox? Elizabeth “Liz” Barker describes herself on Instagram as a model, stuntwoman, and body double.

Originally from the U.S., she now lives in the UK.

She’s also known for co-hosting Elite Thinking Club, a fringe podcast that dabbles in so-called “critical thinking” but regularly features conspiracy theories—some of which are eyebrow-raising to say the least.

In one episode, when asked about the theory of evolution, Barker responded, “I think that’s what we’re made to believe… but I don’t think that is. No.

I think we come from another race.”

She has also made a questionable claim involving Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew, stating that Epstein was murdered as a result of the prince’s infamous Newsnight interview—despite the timeline not adding up, as Epstein died months before that interview aired.

From Detective Drama to Political Drama

Laurence Fox rose to fame through his role as Detective Sergeant Hathaway in ITV’s Lewis.

But in recent years, he’s made more headlines for his outspoken political views than his acting.

As the founder of the right-wing Reclaim Party, Fox has tried (unsuccessfully) to gain elected office several times and was most recently barred from running in the 2024 London mayoral race after submitting incomplete paperwork.

A Family Steeped in Showbiz

While Fox’s political turn has been polarizing, there’s no denying his entertainment pedigree.

He’s part of the iconic Fox acting dynasty: his father is Remains of the Day actor James Fox, and his extended family includes uncles Edward Fox and producer Robert Fox.

His cousins Emilia and Freddie Fox are both successful actors in their own right.

What Comes Next for the Couple?

With a formal wedding ceremony on the horizon and a highly public-facing life already behind them, it seems Fox and Barker are carving their own path—both personally and publicly.

Whether that leads to more romance, more controversy, or both remains to be seen.

But in typical Fox fashion, it’s likely to make headlines.
