It’s been a tense week in South African politics, and the drama didn’t stop at the press conferences.
Former EFF deputy Floyd Shivambu is facing backlash from multiple directions—and now Jacob Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, is adding her voice to the mix with some well-timed shade.
Floyd Shivambu Loses Out on MK Party Role
Floyd Shivambu, who was previously aligned with the EFF and ANC, was recently demoted from his position as secretary-general of the MK Party.
This came after he paid a controversial visit to Prophet Shepherd Bushiri—an act the party did not take lightly, given Bushiri’s fugitive status.
After the demotion, Floyd was expected to take on a new role as an MK Party Member of Parliament (MP).
But in a twist, his name didn’t make it onto the final list of MPs set to be sworn in. The MK Party quietly moved forward without including him.
Still Tweeting, Still Plotting
Despite the snub, Floyd hasn’t directly addressed the rejection.
Instead, he seems to be channeling his energy into launching a brand-new political movement.
On social media, he retweeted a message drawing parallels between himself and Jacob Zuma, MK Party leader and Duduzile’s father.
The tweet suggested that, just like Zuma, Shivambu is being ridiculed for forming a new party—but could rise from the ashes.
It referenced Zuma’s surprising success in the last election, where the MK Party managed to scoop 14% of the national vote within just five months.
Duduzile Zuma Fires Back with Subtle Jabs
But Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla isn’t exactly cheering Floyd on.
In fact, she’s making it clear she’s not buying into the narrative.
Shortly after Floyd’s press conference—where he accused her of “taking drugs”—Duduzile responded in her own cryptic way.
She posted an Instagram Story featuring a throwback TikTok where she lip-synced to JoJo’s song Too Little, Too Late. Not exactly subtle.
Laughing It Off with Julius Malema
And it didn’t stop there. A day later, she followed up with another not-so-innocent Story—this time, a clip of her sharing a laugh with EFF leader Julius Malema, someone Floyd previously worked closely with.
“It’s politics after all,” she captioned the video, making it clear that she’s treating the whole thing like a well-scripted show.
The Bigger Picture: What’s Next for Floyd?
It’s unclear where Floyd Shivambu goes from here.
His talk of forming a new political party has sparked some interest, but with the MK Party moving forward without him and key figures like Duduzile throwing public shade, he may have an uphill battle ahead.
One thing’s for sure: South African politics isn’t short on drama.
