Right now, while the UFC heavyweight scene is buzzing with anticipation, Jon Jones just isn’t feeling it.
Despite being one of the greatest fighters the sport has ever seen, Jones has admitted that stepping back into the Octagon isn’t exactly on his mind — and that’s frustrating a lot of people.
The Fight That’s Stuck in Limbo
Jones, now 37, hasn’t fought since November 2023 when he defended his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic.
And while Tom Aspinall has been holding the interim belt for well over a year, the unification bout everyone wants just… hasn’t happened.
The delay has fans, fighters, and even UFC executives wondering what’s really going on.
Aspinall has been ready.
The world has been waiting.
But Jones? He’s been stalling — and he’s not exactly hiding it.
“Right Now, I Couldn’t Care Less About Fighting”
In a recent appearance on the Full Send Podcast, Jones was blunt: fighting isn’t a priority.
“I don’t want to say that I’m retired because fighting is in my blood… but right now, I could really care less about fighting,” he said.
He added that if the desire returns, he’ll be all in.
But until then? He’s just not interested.
That’s a tough pill to swallow for fans who’ve been dying to see him and Aspinall clash.
Dana White Is Running Out of Patience
UFC president Dana White once said that Jones had already agreed to fight Aspinall — they were just waiting on paperwork.
But with nothing moving, even White has started to set deadlines.
He’s now openly saying that if Jones doesn’t commit soon, the UFC will “move on quickly.”
According to White, this was supposed to be the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history.
But that window might be closing.
Fighters and Fans Are Done Waiting
Tom Aspinall hasn’t fought since he defended his interim title against Curtis Blaydes last July.
And Blaydes himself has voiced what many others feel — if Jones won’t fight, he should be stripped of the belt.
“We all get it.
He’s the GOAT.
He’s great.
But if you’re not going to be active, why are you holding the belt?” said Blaydes.
“He enjoys his name being in the headlines.
I’m over it already.”
The frustration isn’t just inside the UFC.
Almost 200,000 fans have signed a petition asking for Jones to lose the title if he continues to sit out.
Will We See the Fight in 2025?
If Jones does decide to return, the rumored locations for the potential showdown are New York in November or Las Vegas in December.
But that’s a big “if.”
He’s already said Aspinall doesn’t add anything to his legacy — which hints at why he might be dragging his feet.
For now, the UFC’s most anticipated heavyweight matchup remains stuck in the waiting room — and no one, except maybe Jones himself, seems okay with that.
