Education MEC urges community to help find missing teenager Kamogelo Baukudi after kidnapping in Bloemfontein

In Bloemfontein, a cloud of worry hangs over the community as the search intensifies for 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi, a Grade 11 student who was abducted earlier this month.

Loved ones, schoolmates, and officials are united in both heartbreak and hope, determined to bring the teen home safely.

Abduction Sparks Urgent Plea from Education MEC

Kamogelo was kidnapped on June 5 while walking home, reportedly by two men pretending to be police officers.

Since then, there’s been no sign of him—despite continuous efforts from the authorities.

Free State Education MEC Mamiki Maboya has stepped forward with an emotional appeal, asking the public to assist in the search and share any information that might help the investigation. “Our priority is Kamogelo’s safety,” she said.

“We urge everyone to come together—to support the family, the school, and the search efforts.”

Prayers and Support from Kamogelo’s School

At Martie du Plessis Special School in Fichardtpark, where Kamogelo is a student, a heartfelt prayer service was held in his honour.

The gathering brought together staff, students, and parents, all united in support of Kamogelo’s family during what MEC Maboya called a “deeply painful time.”

In collaboration with the police, the education department has launched a dedicated task team to lead the search.

The goal is not only to find Kamogelo but also to bring justice to those responsible.

A Shocking Turn: Police Officer Arrested in Case

In a disturbing twist, a 42-year-old police sergeant has been arrested in connection with Kamogelo’s disappearance.

This development has shaken public trust and prompted a strong response from police leadership.

Free State police commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane assured the community that no one is above the law.

“Any member of SAPS found to be involved in criminal activity will be held accountable—no matter their position,” Motswenyane stated firmly.

Investigation Moves Into Crucial Stage

With the arrest, the investigation is now entering a critical phase.

Authorities remain tight-lipped on specific leads but stress that all avenues are being pursued.

The hope is that the community will continue to come forward with any tips—no matter how small—that could help piece together what happened to Kamogelo.
