Most people wouldn’t imagine that a university student from Johannesburg would find herself representing her country on one of the world’s biggest beauty stages.
But for Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg, that dream became a reality — only to take an unexpected turn.
Last week, the aspiring lawyer and pageant favourite was unexpectedly left out of the Top 40 at the Miss World pageant, much to the surprise of fans both at home and abroad.
Despite being tipped by many as a front-runner, Zoalize’s Miss World journey came to an early end during the finale in India.
The coveted crown ultimately went to Thailand’s Opal Suchata.
Zoalize Reflects: “It Was a Great Adventure”
Taking to Instagram after the pageant, Zoalize addressed her exit with grace and gratitude.
While fans were clearly disappointed — and some even furious about the outcome — Zoalize remained composed, saying she has come to terms with the result.
“This journey has taught me the importance of patience, tolerance, and, most importantly, drawing strength from my purpose,” she wrote in a heartfelt post.
“I am who I am because of the many influential figures in my life, starting with my beloved country.”
When fans flooded her comment section with supportive (and frustrated) messages, Zoalize replied calmly: “It was a great adventure. I respect their decision.”
Fans Rally Behind Her Future
Though the Miss World chapter may be closed, fans are already looking ahead.
Many urged her to consider entering Miss South Africa or even Miss Universe South Africa, which now operates independently.
Zoalize hasn’t ruled anything out, simply responding: “We never know what the future holds.”
She also showed appreciation for comments like, “God has another plan for you,” and “Dreams delayed are not dreams denied,” by liking them — a quiet but hopeful nod to what might come next.
Praise from the Miss World SA Franchise Owner
Zoalize’s performance didn’t go unnoticed by the people who know the pageant world best.
Carol Bouwer, the franchise holder for Miss World South Africa, publicly celebrated Zoalize’s impact and spirit.
In her own Instagram tribute, Carol wrote: “Zoalize, you have taught me that the number of years lived is not the real measure of wisdom. In our eyes, you are the world!”
She continued with a touching farewell: “May the road ahead be littered with more glory than you ever imagined.
Here’s to you, our amazing ambassador. You were outstanding from the very beginning, and we love and cherish you.”
What Comes Next for Zoalize?
While Zoalize may not have taken home the Miss World crown, it’s clear she’s gained something just as powerful: the respect and admiration of thousands.
Whether she returns to the pageant stage or continues her path in law, one thing’s certain — this isn’t the last we’ll hear of her.
