Aaron Ramsey agrees to sign with Mexican club Club Universidad Nacional after caretaker spell at Cardiff City

After a long and varied career in European football, former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey is reportedly set to embark on an exciting new adventure with Mexican club Club Universidad Nacional, often known as Pumas.

This move marks a fresh start for the 34-year-old, who recently wrapped up a short stint as caretaker manager at Cardiff City.

From Player to Manager at Cardiff

Ramsey stepped up to lead Cardiff in the final three games of the season after the club parted ways with Omer Riza.

His mission was clear: help the team avoid relegation.

Despite his best efforts, two draws and a defeat meant Cardiff slipped down the table.

As a result, hopes of Ramsey securing the permanent managerial position at the club have faded.

With his playing contract at Cardiff ending this month, and the club hesitating on offering him a full-time coaching role, it looks like Ramsey’s future lies elsewhere.

Reports now suggest he’s about to finalize a deal with Pumas, which would see him take his talents to the Mexican league.

Coaching Roots and Playing Legacy

Since returning to Cardiff for a second spell, Ramsey has been involved with their academy coaching staff, gaining valuable experience off the pitch.

His journey as a player is impressive—he spent a decade at Arsenal, making 369 appearances and scoring 64 goals, a period where he became a midfield regular under Arsene Wenger.

Notably, Ramsey played a crucial role in Arsenal’s FA Cup success, scoring in both of the finals the club won during his time there.

After leaving Arsenal, he had spells with Juventus in Italy, Rangers in Scotland, and Nice in France before coming back to Cardiff in 2023.

Battling Injuries in Recent Seasons

Last season was a tough one for Ramsey on the playing front.

Hampered by a hamstring injury, he managed just 11 appearances across all competitions, limiting his impact on the field.

But now, with a new chapter opening in Mexico, it seems Ramsey is ready to focus more on his coaching and possibly bring his rich experience to a fresh audience.
