Liverpool are making serious waves in the transfer market with a huge bid to bring Bayer Leverkusen’s young star Florian Wirtz to Anfield.
The Premier League champions have reportedly offered a whopping £100 million plus another £13 million in potential add-ons, showing just how eager they are to secure the talented 22-year-old midfielder.
Wirtz Eyes Liverpool as His Next Big Step
The Germany international has made it pretty clear where he wants to head next — and it’s Liverpool.
Talks between the clubs are still underway, with both sides trying to iron out the finer details and come to an agreement soon.
From what’s been heard, Wirtz is convinced by Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s vision for him, particularly the plan to play him as the team’s main attacking midfielder — a classic No. 10 role.
That clarity has helped sway the young star towards making the jump to England’s top flight.
A Deal Could Be Close, But Price Talks Continue
Sources in Germany are buzzing that a deal could happen any day now, with some insiders pointing to next week as a pivotal moment for the transfer.
However, Liverpool’s current offer is still a bit short of Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price, which reportedly sits at around £126 million.
If Liverpool eventually match that figure, Wirtz would become the most expensive signing ever in British football, surpassing Chelsea’s record £115 million purchase of Moises Caicedo from Brighton.
A Surprise Challenge From Wirtz’s Old Club Köln
One possible hurdle in the negotiations comes from an unexpected quarter.
Köln, the club where Wirtz spent much of his youth career, have raised their voices.
Wirtz joined Köln’s academy as a child in 2010 and stayed until he was 17, when he moved to Leverkusen.
According to FIFA rules, any club involved in a player’s development between the ages of 12 and 23 is entitled to a “training compensation” fee — around 5% of any future transfer.
For a deal this size, that could mean Köln stand to earn over £5 million.
Werner Wolf, Köln’s president, has made it clear his club will fight to claim what they believe is their rightful share of the transfer fee.
Wirtz Shines Despite Germany’s Nations League Loss
Even with the transfer drama swirling, Wirtz has kept his focus on the pitch.
On Wednesday night, he scored the opening goal in Germany’s 2-1 defeat against Portugal in the Nations League.
He’s expected to feature again this Sunday as Germany takes on France in the third-place playoff.
Clearly, this young star is ready for bigger challenges — and if Liverpool’s transfer pursuit comes through, Anfield could be his next stage
